I know Ibsen has been screwing up on the field but i've been watching this guy interact with the team. He is very up-beat and positive. He is a veteran on the bench with teenagers and he is nothing but positive, I never see him pout like some vets would....in warm-ups he is motivating and encouraging....he clowns with Roner Gonzalez and Barclay. What a great example of patience he is for these young guys. Yallop should keep him around as long as he'll stay and play him when the game isn't on the line. I bet he'd do well in a coaching capacity. Just my two cents.

OK, Maybe "clown" was a bad choice of words, especially with this crowd. :D

Surely a better example would be set by a player who can, for example, kick a soccer ball in a straight line.

That's his whole problem.....he can bend in a cross as good as any Quake player aside from Barrett and Mulrooney maybe......it's the 10 yard touch that he screws up. :(

Thank you.....finally someone that doesn't feel the need to pile on Zak.....I just think he is a positive force on a young bench.....he mentors the younger players and like probably buys them beers and stuff. :D

The example he sets though is not on the field....it's how to behave when you aren't playing. Carrieri should have taken this course, he'd have a ring and he'd probably be getting paid more right now. Agogo got alot of playing time when he came over in place of Carrieri.

Good post LDB. Yeah. I can see how he is a good professional on the bench. I guess it's just the high number of balls he gives away. But I you could say Barrett gives away as many.

With all the success the team is having, I think we just needed to pick on somebody, and he unfortuneatley was the unlucky person to get our wrath.

Let's at least appreciate the fact that he got Barclay to cut his hair! :D

Hire him as an assistant coach. Make up some Kraft-esque term for him like "Team Motivation Builder" but never, never NEVER let him on the field in a Quakes uniform again.

Good Point. I can clearly see how sitting on the bench watching someone who is not very good getting a place in the starting 11 whilst you're getting splinters in yer arse is a "positive force".

I cringe everytime I see Zak in the defense. He's a liability back there.

But if we play him in the role he's made for, he can help us. I've said it over and over, he's a substitute right midfielder. He can cross, he has a great shot from outside. He can track back and disrupt. His mistakes don't hurt us as bad when he makes them in our opponent's box instead of ours. Bring him on late in games when we are ahead in place of Russell. He'll be fine in that role.......just don't play him in the back, for God's sake!

Looks like Zak's clowning around with Luchi comes full circle, Luchi's now the maestro leading the clown show.

Is it similar to how Eric Wynalda nutmegged Jeff Agoos in San José to then score the league's first-ever goal... only for Agoos to join the Earthquakes five years later to help launch the beginning of The Golden Age (2001-2005)?

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

I'm glad you stick around, Don, so there's at least one person (barely) older than me on this board. :)
