figured it could use its own thread. lalas, marinelli, walsh... though i think the walsh-hate comes from refusing to reject him. jack and davy, whom we all love, is each captain at his current club, which speaks volumes.
I don't consider him in the 'reject' group, we didn't overly want him here, his beef is with Vermes. One name that's not brought up is Chung, I remember an article after we traded him where he made some poor comments about the team.
This 11 is for guys we generally didn't like while they were wearing KC blue, or guys who crapped on the franchise in some way, right? Just want to get that straight. You can't have a KC Reject 11 without the legend that was Kurt Morsink.
Considering how he left the team, can we consider Ryan Smith one? He was well liked by a number of fans, but the sentiment doesn't seem to exist much anymore. Edit: Nm, hadn't seen the discussion in the Montreal thread yet.
I'd include Smith, despite later denials I was told he wanted to come back. Rocastle Chhetri Abe Thompson Shavar Thomas Jeff Garcia Pardo Christman Auvray
This x1000. Not only a terrible player, but a huge d-bag besides. I once heard Onalfo say that he was a future CM for the Nats. I didn't realize what a terrible coach Onalfo was until that moment. On that note, Onalfo would have to be the coach of Reject 11.
Thinking about it there are a lot of midfielders on this list for me, John, Walsh, Marinelli, Morsink, Chung, Auvray
I don't hold any ill-will towards Herc and was really shocked when we let him go. Yura, OTOH, I am torn on. Yes, he proved he deserved more time, but I also question whether his attitude was a contributing factor in him not getting as much time. I can't be sure whether he did put in the effort at some point and then gave up or not, but I did also get the sense of "and I also don't want to be in KC in the first place" from him. Kei didn't want to be in KC either, but he gave it a shot and I think it's safe to say that he likes it better now. I didn't get that feeling from him, particularly at the reserve match I went to after the ECF last year. Probably what intrigues me most about all of this is how widely perceptions range between fans of some of these players - mostly depending on what you choose to believe and not believe with a bit based on what you may or may not have heard.
That was all part of the Ron Newman experience. Newman was known for dysfunctional locker rooms that took out their aggression on the opposing teams. Worked wonders in San Diego. Worked pretty well in KC for a couple of years. Didn't work so well by the time we got to 1999. Chung always felt under appreciated (which, to be honest, was fair), but then Ron wasn't known to coddle players. I always respected Chung for the fact that he was professional on the field. He may not have cared for the organization, and he obviously retained some bitterness after he got out, but it never showed on the field.
One of my beefs during the Gansler era was his unwillingness to use young players. What's the average age of Sporting? I think there was a year where we only had one player on the 24 player roster under 23, and that was a 22 year-old Ryan Pore. I don't know if it was all Gansler or a combination of Gansler and Johnson, but during that era the team, with few exceptions, avoided young players. And the handful on the roster over the years were lucky to get minutes. Our "young" players tended to be four year college players.
--- Smith-----Lowe-------- -------Marinelli------------ Walsh-------------Chhetri- ---Auvray---Morsuck------ -Thomas-Gough-Lalas------ --------Ammann-----------
I guess I thought this was more about guys you wouldn't bother to cross the street to spit on, instead of just players who suck. With the exception of Preki, whose awesomeness absolves all of his douchebaggery.
so Yura Movsisyan doesn't make the list? I'd put Gomez and Movsisyan up top and they would score a ton of goals in MLS
How about Eric "I'd rather retire than play for KC" Dade Not really a reject, but maybe we can sneak him onto the team due to some technicality.
Or Jeff Baicher, who was the same way. He'd said before the 2000 season that we were 10 years away from winning MLS Cup...
He was on our roster (in fact he appears in the 2000 media guide), but he "retired" and went to play with the Bay Area Seals. http://www.soccertimes.com/wagman/2000/apr12.htm
