http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...referral&utm_content=News&utm_campaign=Unpaid This started as a tweet by local TV station correspondent Christian Bruey: https://twitter.com/CBrueyWFTV/statuses/347358905128583169 If the rumor is correct, then we may have a powerful new ally in the expansion buzz. Certainly the idea that a superstar player would want to come here would be powerful ammo.
Not to rain on the parade but MLS has roster rules that need to be complied with.............in this instance Player Discovery Claims. I'd be willing to bet good money that KaKa is already on the Discovery Player List for the LA Galaxy and The Ny Red Bulls............ and with that being the case, OCSC would have to meet the compensation price to either of those teams in order to sign KaKa (this was the case when Portland had to acquire the discovery rights to Kris Boyd from Houston). This isn't to say that when/if OCSC gains entry into MLS that they won't sign Kaka..........but the process isn't a slam dunk, nor is it as cut and dry as saying: "If we get to MLS we will sign X player."
Could someone please give me a brief explanation how these player discovery list works. When I hear the word "discovery," it suggests some scout went into an obscure league somewhere and "disocevered" an up-and-coming player or an overlooked player. How can one "discover" an established global superstar like Kaka? Are players like Messi, Bale, Pirlo, Mata, etc. sitting on "discovery" lists of various MLS teams? Is Ronaldo on, say, Columbus Crew's "discovery" list because someone in the crew's front office saw him on a UEFA CL telecast and put him on the list?
It's MLS's way of preventing bidding wars for players between it's teams. It's not so much "Discovering" a player, it's more like calling first dibs on a player. So if the LA Galaxy are the first team to place KaKa on their Discovery List, they are the only team that can negotiate and sign him. Discovery Lists do have a limited number of spots though, so teams can't stockpile names on them. No pne outside of the teams & the league knows for sure who is on the discovery lists. Although with all of the rumors of LA Galaxy and RBNY wanting to sign KaKa (his brother plays for RBNY) it's fairly safe bet that one of these teams has placed a discovery claim on him.
Ha! This is MLS we're talking about. If Kaká wants to play for Orlando, the league isn't going to tell him to get bent because some double-secret list means LA owns his rights. They'll just come up with some new triple-secret list that overrides it, and insist that really, it's been in the rules all along.
Orlando City ownership looks to bring in "very special" player as first-year DP, have spoken to Kaka http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...-bring-very-special-player-first-year-dp-have
No... it was Digão. http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/69/t...22/new-york-red-bulls-kakas-brother-part-ways
Orlando City majority owner hints at Kaka interest http://www.soccerbyives.net/2013/11/orlando-majority-interest.html
Wayne Rooney's brother,John, also played for the New York Red Bulls and Orlando City. John Rooney (footballer) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Rooney_(footballer)
He looks pretty darn close to his brother. Maybe OCSC can just sign him for a fraction of what a DP spot would cost the team and they can just say it's Kaka.
I believe Kaka is going to play for Orlando City. He already said that he's interested in playing in MLS and,he has a house in the area.
