Hey folks, Just relocated up here for a 6-9 month work assignment. Got to say, as impressed as I've been by your crowds on TV, I was amazed to see so many folks walking around on Front Street today in TFC gear. Does anyone have any good suggestions for soccer bars? Irish pubs in general? I'm living in Yorkville where there seems to be slim pickings. Thanks for any advice. Jason
Whereabouts in Yorkville? (name a nearby major road intersection....) There are a good few footy pubs in the city, afew might be within easy reach of you.
Yorkville between Bay and Cumberland...a few blocks away from the intersection of Bloor and Yonge. Thanks
My favourite footy pub happens to be Scallywags on the SW corner of Yonge and St. Clair. It's usually got a large contigent of Liverpool supporters but they have so many tv's that just about every game is covered. It's about a 5 minute subway ride or a 30 minute walk on a nice day . Check it out and welcome to T.O.!
Another pub closer to you is the Duke of Gloucester on Yonge south of Bloor. They do show a lot of games but give them a shout if you have questions about specific games. It would be more convenient for you but Scallywags is fantasic.
Irish pub-wise, there's McVeigh's at the SW corner of Church and Richmond. They have Irish music on weekends, and headquarters the Celtic supporters during the season. Decor is um, well-loved, but they're friendly enough in there and pour a good pint. There are a number of 'chain' Irish pubs, one is called Fionn Macool's. There is one down towards the waterfront, on the Esplanade east of Yonge St, right next to the Bier Markt, but there is also one a few doors east of Scally's, too.
You're very close to the Duke of York (Prince Arthur & Bedford), while not very football orientated is a good place for a drink in the summer. The Madison (Madison just North of Bloor) and the Pour House (St. George & Dupont) are close to you as well, both a pretty studenty, but decent pubs. But Scallywags is by far the best Football Pub, followed by The Duke of Gloucester. Cork would probably be the nearest place you'll find a good Irish pub.
I'm a yank visiting my girlfriend who lives in Toronto. Are any of the above mentioned bars likely to air the US-Spain game on Wed?
If you Google Scallywag's, you can get their number for the info line, which let you know which games they are showing (they may have an on line schedule, too) Or give the Duke of Gloucester a call, they can tell you which games they plan to show (or if you are in the neighbourhood and drop by, they list the games they are planning to show on a board as you come up the stairs)
Thanks so much. Made some calls. The Duke doesn't have espn2, Scallywag's told me to call back and inquire again tonight or tomorrow. If anyone has any other suggestions, please, throw 'em out there. Thank you, Torontonians.
I was going to start another topic but hey I will post it here. I am going to be moving to Hamilton in the end of July and had two questions 1) How good is the public transport to BMO (I believe they have Go trains that go there, I heard it on tv but not 100%) 2) Is there any good bars/pubs to watch a good game of footie?

Been living in TO for 7 months on a 2 year contract. Originally from LA, I find the soccer enthusiasts here awesome. Coming from a Chivas/America/El Tri crazy place...all of sudden everything is either the Italian or Portuguese or Brazilian or Greek national teams. Nice change!
