Just a friendly reminder of where we sit in terms of current first team/potential first team players. Italics notes player out of contract this summer. GK- Cech, Courtois, Schwarzer, Hilario, Delac, Blackman LB- Cole, PVA, Bertrand CD- JT, Cahill, Luiz, Kalas, Omerou, Zouma RB- Dave, Ivan, Wallace M- Lampard, Mikel, Matic, Ramires, Van Ginkel, Romeu, McEachran, Ake, Chalobah AM- Hazard, Oscar, Schurrle, Willian, Salah, Moses, Piazon, Atsu, T. Hazard, Marin F- Lukaku, Torres, Ba, Bamford
We need a striker. Or two. Eto’o is going to leave at the end of the season – so we need a bloke to replace him or we bring back Lukaku from loan? Then we need to think about Torres. We cannot wait any longer for a 50 million quid investment to work out. It is not going to work out. We sell him and we buy another striker. But who? There are the big names: Messi – unavailable Ronaldo – unavailable Zlatan – too old Neymar – unavailable Bale – unavailable Falcao? Maybe available? Suarez – rather not Cavani? Maybe available? So who are the not-so-big names and the somewhat obscure names? I mean spending large amounts on a striker hasn’t always gone well for us. Sheva? Torres? Who is out there under the radar a little? Should we wait and see what the world cup brings?
it seems the primary targets being discussed/mentioned in the media are Costa Mandzukic Cavani Jackson Martinez Dzeko
http://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation....nsfer-rumors-liverpool-interested-ashley-cole Ash allegedly being targeted by Liverpool
I think the most obvious target would be Costa. Rumored 32m buy out clause, good age and has been scoring goals. I'm not sure if I would be sold on him but considering the available options he seems like the best option. Cavani / Falcao would be the outsiders, both do not seem to be happy in France but either would cost 55-60m and big big wages. Mourinho has made it very clear we will be getting a top top striker, so clear that maybe he has something almost wrapped up . Last summer was the best time to buy a striker with Cavani/Falcao on the market but so far the club has been fantastic regarding transfers. The recent performance have even made me not be as upset regarding the Mata sale. Matic+ Zouma + Salah for Mata + KDB and some spare $$ for the club seems like it will turn out to be an excellent bit of business. Matic looks like he can be a beast for us and a hybrid of Toure/Veira.
Kristof Terreur @HLNinEngeland 32m So, Romelu #Lukaku will return to Chelsea this summer. Last summer it was his decision to move on loan to #EFC, he repeated on RTBF. #cfc
Assuming we're definitely stuck with Torres, and BA+Eto'o moving on leaves one signing short which Jose was talking about. Hopefully it's Rooney fingers crossed?
agreed that Torres is not going far imo not sure the third forward will be quite the splash some may expect and we may end up with someone along the lines of Mandzukic
Jose pretty much confirmed the fees of transfers Wonder why he did not mention about Zouma? Or do club have got a separate budget section on future investments?
I'm thinking that the third unknown one will be the first choice, & club probably have got something already sewn up. Now the question of a choice, about how much they're gonna spend. With Essien gone, & maybe Ba+Eto'o there will be a 10mn+ salary free gap easily able to afford a 50mn package over 5 years.
but with the silly money being talked about with Rooney (300k per week- cue lobo in 3, 2, ...) it may be a bridge too far. I know we would be saving on the transfer fee but I am not sure Rooney will be the answer. I would not be surprised to see something like 20-25 mil for Shaw 5-10 mil on a couple of developmental/squad players- potential another reserve keeper among that and then 20-30 mil on a striker
I think that is the case while we may have agreed the fee it may not come into play until his return loan spell is completed despite being our player sounds like a smart way to win several battles
Rooney may not be the answer for a longer term but he's a nice transition capture imo & will be good in this system. Besides, Terry Lampard Cole are unsure for next season so far(I guess 2 of them will be kept & announcement will come within April) so Roo will be a good bet from HG status too. There is a provision for him & club might surprise us again. Shaw will come within 20mn imo, as top fullback prices are & Soton are already in backfoot somewhat. Squad player is a tricky one, already have Kalas/Ake/Salah/Van Ginkel in that role, with Jose mentioning one loanee may return to compensate a squad role. I think club will adopt this strategy, one loanee returning means saving millions on a squad player front. Theoretically it's perfect planning.
