I don't know if you guys/gals are watching the Del Potro / Fedderer Olympic semi-final but what an epic match it's been. DP won the first set rather easily but Fedderer fought back in the second set. Currently they are at 12-12 in the third set. DP seems to be getting stronger on his service the longer this match goes on plus his knee is clearly healed up. He also had a nice nice diving shot to to back over advantage in an earlier set. Best part is the Argentine fans there are the most vocal and the most requested to quiet down
Watching DelPo and Djokovic in the 1/4's of the US Open and they are killing it! Djokovic took the first set 6-2 but DelPo is up in the second 4-2.
Shame. Delpo played well for the most part, but Novak was unquestionable better. I think he has the tools to be a number one but the reality is not so much that he beats himself but that he needs to work to improve his game some more to be the top player, because right now there are three or four guys who are unquestionably better players than he is. (at least Federer, Djokovic, Nadal, maybe Murray as well)
I think youth plays a big part in DelPo' game as you can see when challenged with adversity. He threw everything at Djokovic last night and still came up short. To DelPo's credit though, I'm not sure anyone is playing nearly as good a tennis as Djokovic has for the past year. Last nights match just like his Olympic Semi against Federer was one of the longest 1/4-Semi match in a major this year so competing on that level isn't the challenge, it's fitness and some growth. I give him a couple of years to break through any barriers and then he'll possibly the top player in the world.
Damn, looks like Del Potro's injury got worse after the Stepanek match and he decided not to play against Berdych. It's Berlocq playing instead and he's getting his ass kicked. I guess there won't be a Davis Cup final this year. I just hope Delpo's wrist is not too ********ed up. He already lost a year over his other wrist.
Don't forget it was his knee that kept him out for some time. All he needs is for a few years of no injuries in order to establish himself as one of the dominant if not dominant male tennis player in the world. DelPo is not only responsible for the two longest 1/4 or better matches this past year. In the Olympics he took Federer so deep that he had nothing left for the gold medal match. In the US Open he did the same in the 1/4's with Djokovic that he had nothing left in his next match and was done before he even started the final. Andy Murray should be buying DelPo and friggin Rolex for helping him be something he's not. Del Potros only 23 years of age, wait until he hits his mid to late 20's, he's going to be a beast.
DelPo beat Federer yesterday in the Tour World Finals to reach the semifinals and a match against the man he defeated in the Olympic bronze medal match Novak Djokovic. Murray plays Federer in the other semifinal.
Good job to Zeballos, beating Rafa Nadal in a final in Chile(On clay as well). First ever championship.
Juan Martin Del Potro beat Andy Murray today at the Indian Wells Master by a score of 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-1. Very good win for Delpo and hopefully it will help him get the confidence to move up to the next level. His reward is a semifinal matchup vs world number one Novac Djokovic. Vamos Delpo!!!
SM - how far are you from Indian Wells? Looks like a great stadium to watch a tennis match. You should go, order several beers & watch DelPo. Don't be a puss. What .. Are you scared? (Feel free to throw in more juvenile taunts. I can't think of any more at the moment.)
LOL! I am a little over 150 miles away from it. I was going to go last year, only time they really come down to SoCal and wanted to catch some tennis LIVE but it didn't work out. I believe the tournament was in May or so, I guess they moved it up. Probably better they did because it gets really hot around there. The arena is in a cool place though, middle of the desert and through the hills. But I will be pulling for JMDP, hope he goes through. Anybody but that gallego is fine by me.
And Del Potro beats Djokivic. 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Came back from a hole in the last set, playing some awesome tennis and put away the final point with an ace. Rafa Nadal is next in the final.
