I've been following Juan Arango ever since he started playing for Mallorca back in .... 2004?
Every day I'm more and more amazed of how good he is with free kicks.
And I'm not talking about the "easy" freekicks that are curve over the wall and go down into the goal.

I'm talking about 35 mts free kick with lots of power and absolutely f....ing amazing accuracy.

Is Juan Arango the best free-kicker in the World?
What other people can kick 35mts free kick as good (power+accuracy) as Arango?

    Mengao86,
pretty good, but all his 35+mts shots were just power shots (straight line to the goal).

What amazes me about Arango is that he can kick them from that far over the wall.
You can't do that just running and kicking the cr_p out of the ball.

    Forlan is a good example,
he also kicks long distance powerful freekicks over the wall.

Did you not see him bend the ball at all? Hardly a straight line at all -- bends it with power just like Roberto Carlos used to.

    Right now, as in today?

    1. Shunsuke Nakamura - this guy is amazing. A free kick expert. Too bad he's about to retire completely (he already retired from the Japanese NT).
    2. Steven Gerrard - the most composed FK taker since the golden years of Beckham.
    3. Juninho Pernambucano - at a time he was the best FK taker in the world. But not any more.
    4. David Beckham - he still does some magic with the LAG. He'd be higher but, truth be told, often his FK goals are helped by the bad quality of the keepers in the MLS.
    5. Juan Arango - Just watch his recent goal versus Hamburg. It did the "folha seca" drop, totally throwing Rost out of the line.

surely one dosnt lose his freekick ability as they got older, its not fitness related or speed

But it depends on the opposition you have in front of you. That's why Beckham has fewer points now, even though he's scoring more FK goals than ever: the keepers in MSL are not as good as those in Europe or South America.

Same for Juninho: he's been playing in Qatar, and even there his production of FK goals has been rather low. We'll see now that he's back in Brazil. So far he's played only three games and scored only one goal (in a free kick, of course).

Pernambucano is clearly the #1, he's already earned that spot.

Nakamura is very good, I just haven't seen him kick FK in a long time.

I don't believe things are fixed in stone. I'll wait to see how Juninho does in Vasco before re-evaluating.

Nakamura is awesome, and IMO the J.League is better than the MLS and a lot better than the Stars League (I've only watched six games of the latter in the last season, though, thanks to the IraqGoals streams, which as you all know are of very poor quality).

Yeah but the guy who started the thread was asking for those people think are better than Arango (right now, I guess, not great free kick takers from three years ago).

If people cannot name anyone better than Arango, but they just say he's not one of the best, they cannot be taken seriously.
