Doesn't matter what MLS wants. They have two options, sell him by this summer or lose him for nothing.
Not if he doesn't want to sign. And that's a different topic than MLS wanting to sell or not. Of course MLS would prefer to keep all their talented youngsters. As far as his contract, this is from Sept Agudelo's future is unknown. He could explore a move abroad either this offseason or when his contract expires next season. Trials at both Stuttgart and Liverpool prove that there is an intrigue from Europe about his talent and with one year left on his contract, he will be an affordable option for plenty of clubs.
http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/1110...hivas-usa-juan-agudelo-feels-red-bulls-werent I guess this was stated twice, so it must be right. Maybe Waxman did get him a 4-year deal. (all previous GenAd deals were 3+2, IIRC) In this scenario, MLS may want to move him now, if there's interest.
I can easily imagine Agudelo impressing Celtic enough for them to make a go for him in the winter transfer window. Yeesh.....
IIRC, DeRo did not have permission from TFC at the the time and was immediately recalled back to Canada. That was the beginning of the end for DeRo at TFC. Shalrie Joseph was all set the sign with Celtic in 2007 and at the last minute MLS / Revs reneged.
I agree, it's just yucky to think about. Anyway, I think Agudelo's handlers should definitely be pushing for a transfer now. He won't gain much value playing at terrible Chivas. It will be interesting to see how MLS handles this.
Celtic low balled and were told to up the bid with a legit offer, or F off. If u want to call not accepting a weak offer reneging then u can if u want.
IIRC, the original bid was $1m which was ridiculous but Celtic came back with a $2m. I think Shalrie had agreed to personal terms but the second bid was rejected by MLS killing any deal. Doesn't matter anyway, it's in the past. That was a loaded Celtic side, too. It would have been fun to see Shalrie with that bunch. It took a Kaka extratime goal during the knockout stages of the CL to end a nice European run.
I was thinking something along these lines. I'm not sure his game translates to the uk, but man I'd love to see him in Italy or Spain.
That wouldn't happen in today's world, but back then it was different. Sigh. He really would have been a huge addition in 2006.
