and that's why intent is irrelevant inre to officiating. The action is the only thing that matters. PKs are given for hand balls all the time where the player had no intention of handling but his arm was not tucked in to his body so it's called. It's not a poorly written rule just because you disagree. It states very clearly that the action is the only thing that matters. In this case the action resulted in Altidore falling down, ergo PK. Not sure what's difficult to understand about that.
Similarly, PK's are frequently NOT given when the player had no intention of handling the ball. He is not obligated to call that a penalty. Now he's not barred from calling it a penalty, but he doesn't have to. The rule does not say that play must always be a penalty. That's where individual discretion, such as intent and direction of the body, can come into play. Many referees would not have called it. Maybe you would have.
we never give positive remarks on refs, but what an outstanding non-call by Webb in the semifinal. All the pressure in the world and he keeps his head.
Can we start posting goals of Jozy to remember that he actually used to score them before arriving to Sunderland?
Maybe we should not make a game day thread for him so he'll score. That seems like an original and brilliant idea. Or we could sacrifice a chicken like Pedro Cerrano in Major League.
They are given more often than not (and they should be). It usually has more to do with the position of the arms and how contact affected the play vs. any assumed intent. As I explained in the driving example I used previously, the burden or regulation/punishment is on the defender, because he can (usually) easily prevent his hands from interfering with play in the box (accordingly, defenders take the appropriate precaution and tuck their arms in so play isn't interrupted).
Hah that's perfect. Matt Drudge does have a super human ability to post the relevant headlines of the day.
I probably should have clarified. What I meant was "Can we post clips of him scoring so that we "as in fans/supporters" can recall that he used to score. Not that it would actually enhance his scoring or anything. Just that we can have something to do other than gloss over his lack of PT or whether he dived or not and so on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWWF9vHLXzY
Start the parade of worst PL teams of the year: http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/85/e...-goals-worst-premier-league-team?ICID=HP_BN_1 If I were Jozy, I would unplug all my devices and just tell my agent to let me know if something important needs to be addressed.
How does Tottenham not get honorable mention for blowing their whole wad of Gareth Bale money for nothing?
Well, they did get this guy: http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/first-team-profiles/christian-eriksen/ And he'll be the buy of the season, likely, with Bony being the second.
Oh absolutely. I'd almost contend he is underrated. He might be my favorite non-American player to watch week-in, week-out. Love watching him play. But as a whole, from where Spurs started with last season's results and all the buys/sells, there is no way to call this season a success.
7 goals, 9 assists in 22 league matches. Eriksen has had 1 heck of a season, though it took a while for him to take off. Adapted quite well from the Dutch league and Spurs are lucky to have him.
I would call a season where they got rid of AVB a success by any measure. That was wretched footy for their talent level last year.
i hope jozy can take the momentum of his dive into the next set of matches, maybe all the way to the WC.
