I wonder when, if ever, that jona will ever be given a chance at Barcelona. The kid has so many CMs in front of him who is he going to replace. Theres word Keita might even stay. Why are jona and Barcelona wasting their time they should just sell him with a buy back clause because they've been calling him the future, but it's been two years of that already

Keita and Afellay are both rumored to be leaving. That leaves two open spots at the center-midfield.

The way I see it he'd be 3rd choice behind Cesc/Thiago. Though Cesc doesn't really even play as midfielder in Barcelona so he'd being even more likely to get playing time. In theory he'd be Xavi's direct back up if Cesc keeps playing as an advanced midfielder.

I don't think Jona should waste his time if both Keita/Afellay stay or if another midfielder is brought.

and to top it all off with the crap season Fabregas had just recently, Jona has a fairly good chance in receiving a good amount of min of playing time this upcoming season

It was a great decision by Jona. Not many have this type of opportunity. Either way I think they should take a kid that plays in mexico, for exposure.

For the sake of our team, I hope this story is right. No one and I mean no one, should deny a call up to the NT. If these two face no consequences, then it will be a slippery slope where a call up to the NT will no longer mean anything.

I can understand vela not wanting to come to the Olympics he needs a new club.
But Jona should have took this chance to impress it could have potentially helped his chance for playing time on Barca....Are Spain teams really this broke? Vela's price tag isn't that bad.

I don't know. As much as I want to be on the side of the kids looking for a place on their new teams (or the first team in Jona's case) I can't relate to them denying call ups to the Olympic games. It's once every four years and some people truly spend their entire lives dreaming about making it to these games. It just seems a little selfish IMO. I can't blame Jona cuz he's been done dirty in the past by Mexico but still. It's like someone giving you a chance to shine on a world stage and you saying NO.

I agree. Obviously, it's Jona's decision and he can do whatever he wants, that's his right, but I think it's the wrong decision. He'll have lots of chances to do pre-season jumping jacks and go on international friendly tours to play the likes of FC Bangkok, Sporting Shangzue, Al-Hassad United, and the Galaxy.

This Is probably his one chance to play in one of the oldest sporting competitions human beings have, and be in a squad that has a real chance to do something no Mexican squad has ever done before in the Olympics.

The Barca players currently playing in the Euro will be given an extra month of vacation. Keita may be on his way out. This could very well be a huge opportunity for Jona to see regular playing time with the first team and depending on how well he does, make himself a regular off the bench. Obviously it's a calculated risk and there are no guarantees on any of this but this is the correct move. They aren't about to sell him any time soon so he has to try to get first team minutes anyway he can.

All he would do at the Olympics is sit behind Salcido.

Where is he gonna play with Keita, Xavi, Iniesta, Cesc, Thiago and Busquets ahead of him in the midfield?
