The article glosses over this but the big Tigres acquisition of this offseason is Hector Mancilla, long a top Mexican league scorer with Toluca. As to Spanglish, shouldn't Jonathan speak a little Espanol?
Another article but in Spanish: http://www.mediotiempo.com/futbol/m.../jonathan-bornstein-un-rey-con-toque-mexicano I want to translate but I got college right now so I'll spill a few points; Bornstein likes Chrismas Eve and X-mas itself as well as different kind of tacos. Also, he likes Enrique Iglesias' music.
This article talks about him celebrating Christmas, I thought he was Jewish. Didn't he almost transfer to an Israeli team a year or so ago?
I think it's probably more of being of Mexican/Jewish heritage and celebrating both. One from the mother's side, the other from the fathers. Just a guess though, i really have no idea about the intricate nature of J.Born's religion.
I know plenty of Jews who celebrate Christmas. It's become just as much a secular holiday as it has a religious one in the US. Just saying.
I had time to translate all of it so here I go from my earlier post of that Mediotiempo article: *Bornstein has lived in the Los Angeles. An area surrounded by mexican culture (music, food, etc.) and he wants to celebrate it as well as learn/enjoy the culture altogether. *On the topic of X-mas, his mom encouraged him as a little boy to enjoy/celebrate x-mas. X-mas was his favorite holiday that he enjoyed as a kid. *Also Bornstein states that he's not religious and that soccer is his religion. He celebrates x-mas with a lot of people. Moreover, he likes to decorate x-mas trees too. *On the question, "what's his favorite x-mas gift?" Bornstein responded that it had to be a toy that kids/friends would've admired him for. (I guess make the other kids envious of him...weird.) But the best gift is to spend time with family. *On the question, What do you want for x-mas this year?- Bornstein responds that he wants a new pair of shades then laughs. *Bornstein recalls his first experience of mexican culture which was Dia De Los Muertos (day of the dead holiday) that he took a spanish class in school, he'll write and talk about the Day of the Dead holiday. Also that it was his favorite mexican tradition and grabbed his attention as well as liking the process of Day of the Dead (making of costumes, masks, parade, etc.) *On Halloween Bornstein mentions that his family celebrates it. He likes dressing up for halloween and go out with friends as well as watch horror movies on halloween. As for what Bornstein likes to dress up, he prefers something comical and goofy; This year he dressed as Shrek and Fiona also he dressed up some dog as Donkey. *He likes Mariachi music. *On the topic of why he looks like ex-Tigres (retired) player Joaquín del Olmo Bornstein doesn't know him personally and finds it funny that within the last 3 or 4 days that people keep referring to him to Joaquin. Also he knows he used to be great footballer and that he is currently the coach for Club Tijuana (They recently won the Apertura 2010 2nd division) and played the same position as he once did. Also, Bornstein will try to assimilate himself as Joaquin *They ask him when he was in MLS, and watched the mexican league, what mexican team did you wanna go to/transfer? Bornstein says that he'll like to go to CD Chivas de Guadalajara who are big in Mexico and because he was in Chivas USA *Last Question: Now that you're a Tigre, whats your goal in short? Bornstein says that he wants to prove himself and his teammates that he can be a very good footballer. Also, not just be in one season, but many more is what he looks for in Tigres. PS: There's other tidbits above that I've posted before in case you haven't read them.

Bornstein Scores http://www.mediotiempo.com/futbol/mexico/noticias/2010/12/13/jonathan-bornstein-se-apunto-un-golazo From the mexican article, Bornstein scored a goal (3rd goal) with his left foot from an unspecified distance against the bench team of Tigres. All his teammates gave him props/claps for his goal. Score overall 3-0 So far, Tigres has done warm-up matches against the bench players but until Wednesday, they'll play one of the scheduled friendlies against Atlante.
Bornstein's is out for 2 weeks due to muscle contraction on his right thigh. Thus, he's ruled out for the 1st away match vs Gallos Blancos according to Mediotiempo.
Will they be inserting an apostrophe? Thanks for the update but we're losing something in translation. I'm guessing this would this be the equivalent of a "pulled" or torn muscle?
http://www.mediotiempo.com/futbol/m...n-bornstein-emocionado-por-su-debut-en-tigres According to Mediotiempo: Jonathan Bornstein, is ecstatic to debut for Tigres much later on today vs Necaxa. He's physically fit to play for Tigres and he's in the starting line-up according to him and Tigres coach, Tuca Ferreti. Also, he wants to give his all for the game.
He played so well, they had to sub him out after the 1st half because he was making everybody look too bad.
Eh... halftime subs seem much more common in the Mexican Primera, and he is new to their system. Not necessarily a reflection on his play.
