After the Charleston Battery won the USL2 Championship this past Saturday , John Wilson, long time Battery player and former DC United player, announced it was his last game.

    http://www.postandcourier.com/news/2010/aug/31/battery-set-the-tone-for-title-run-early/

Johnny is a great guy and is one of the guys I think that are the Charleston Battery, playing 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2008, 2009, 2010, winning two championships with the Battery and of course, finishing runner up in the USOC in 2008. He will be staying in the local area and I'm sure we will see him around the 'Baud next season but he will be missed.

Thhheresss onnnllly one Johnny Wilson! Onnnne Johnny Wilson!

One of the most underrated outside backs to ever play with us. IMO He had great speed and touch on the ball for an outside back. Made sense since he was a forward I think in college.

I was happy to see him on TV watching you guys beat Richmond the other day. I hope he has lots of cool stuff to come in his post-player life. A great guy.

Its ok. Even the players must be thinking about starting on a clean slate next season. And I forgive everyone, we did get an extreme attack of the injury bug.

While I always liked Wilson, I will always remember that he fouled someone in the box late in the game to blow our 21 (or something like that) game unbeaten streak. My details are fuzzy, as I have tried to forget it, but Johnny Wilson was the culprit. Nonetheless, I wish him the best and thank him for the positive contributions he has added to the teams he has played for over the years.

Great that he could end his career with one more trophy. Great guy--we lived in Charleston in 2000-2002, and he was one of our favorite players then. Was thrilled when he got a chance to play for United and "followed us here" and he was a real gentleman when we met him and talked about living in Charleston.

Congrats on the successful career, and best of luck moving on.

LOL Yea, i think he caused us two PKs in a row (in two different games I believe). Unlucky, because before then he was plaing pretty well for us on the wing. That sealed his fate, and then later we let him go.

you think 32 is young in this sport? DC has 4 who are that old and 3 are considered dinosaurs (Moreno, Pena & Talley....Allsopp is 32).

Once the legs go, it's tough to stay in soccer

Not young, but depending on your body and how you take care of yourself you can still play 2-4more years.

    Pena is 37, moreno 36, Talley 35 I think.

There is a big difference between their ages and 32 for Wilson. Look at mcbride who just now will retire at the end of this season, he is 38.

Johnny's knees and back are shot. he nearly didnt play this year. he was tentative that he might do some long term harm but underwent some test and along with being monitored closely this season he decided to go one last year.
