Thank you very much for your efforts! I will include it in a new overview. Also your previous info will be included.

One last question: do you have a link for the newspaper article with Lippens?

It seems to boil down to the events where Israel and Van Hanegem bullied him in February 1971 before the game against Luxembourg. This is detailed here:
    http://inbedwithmaradona.com/journal/2012/4/16/willi-lippens-die-legendare-ente.html

I mentioned the link before but didn't exactly know Cruijff his part in the story.

Cruijff had no part in the bullying but Lippens is disappointed in how he handled this. He acknowledges that Israel was the captain and Cruijff would only become the captain at the end of 1971 but in his eyes was Cruijff informally on equal footing.
Cruijff did an attempt in stopping the bullying but according to Lippens it was not enough. Cruijff had the opinion that he was a footballer and not "the daddy of the other players".

Lippens is/was heavily disappointed in Cruijff and thinks he made up a halfhearted excuse because usually Cruijff wanted to have a stake in everything. "For someone who had a say in the choice for the goalkeeper he showed little interest." Lippens also suspected that Cruijff wanted to have Piet Keizer or Rob Rensenbrink on his left-wing place.

His shape was already a little bit declining at that time. It would decline further at the game against Brazil (light fever) and final game.

Strange by the way that this compilation excludes his second goal and assist...

it's so emotional and phenomenal to see how many chances he created and .. he did miss
It looked like he played a friendly game .. w/ot so much pressure ... wow

A said, the compilation misses very strangely his second goal and his left footed assist...

Most interesting aspect of that video is to see how he deals with changing weather circumstances and an increasingly deteriorating pitch. It is visible that he alters his game when the sky becomes more and more rainy. It is also good of the maker of that video to include some tracking back that he performed.

Found an even better one. It is 25 minutes long but after watching 8 minutes it looks like it is a pretty comprehensive collection of moves in that 1974WC

In other (earlier) videos he looks more graceful though.

arsenij. can you provide a list as I and Vegan did for these seasons and indicate for which matches you don't have the info? That makes it easier to include it later in other lists.

I make now a new overview which includes the Feyenoord seasons and a few additions you found.

believe me in America, we are very maniac in Stats, so those numbers in that link must be correct.
However, assists are counted under certain rules and NASL's is different than FIFA rule. So if there is a difference that is due to different rule count. Like FIFA do not count on assist to a PK and FK (?? don't know why???) but NASL did. Also bouncing off a player is also tricky in counting

Note that Cruijff did extremely well in NASL with 25goals+36ass/53games (1.62 points/game)
Slightly better than Pele with 1.55points per game (31golas+25ass/57games) and slightly shy from G.Best (87goals+96ass/160games= 1.69points/game)

However, Pele only started his career in US at 35 (while Cruijff started there at 31 and Best started at 30)

True, other side is though that Pelé played for a more dominant team. Cruijff his intention was to join the Cosmos after all...

btw, I have a question for you: what is the source for that Pelé had more than 300 career assists?

(it was his 9th official assist (that’s for sure); that is I think it sums up his assists and pre-assists, therefore we know ALL his assists in the matches 551-563 – 9 (NASL counted) assists = 8 assists + 1 pre-assist)

    59 matches, 26 goals, 32 assists, 7 pre-assist, 2 more assists (but it is unclear – assists or pre-assists), 2 caused penalties
Some sources (American newspapers I used) contradicted with each other, there are some matches that I did not see reports of, sometimes it was difficult to understand which of the two assisters (where they were known) of a goal was assister and which – pre-assister. So – this summary is not complete and finished

I posted a link to a early 70s documentary a while ago ( here ) and said that it is not the full version, it hasn't all images. I possess that full version and uploaded a few parts now. I cut all the talking.

Note: images of 1972 Cup final omits for strange reasons his assist to the third goal. That is not my mistake but mistake of the film itself.

Hope it is appreciated because it took a while. I planned to do it way earlier but I encountered problems back then.

New good upload of a Europe vs South-America game.

It was a friendly charity match played in October 1973 (4:4). It was played on a day that the FIFA called 'world football day' (a year earlier in 1972 was on the same date also a charity game played) and the financial benefits of the game went to Africa. Match was played in Camp Nou and had only 15000 visitors. Cruijff played 45 minutes and was according to reports lined-up as, I cite, "his 1960s center-forward role". He played only 45 minutes because Barcelona wanted to preserve him and because he was supposedly not entirely fit - which he often was.

Visible is how vastly different the pitches were back then.

Goalscorers were: Sotil, Eusebio, Keita, Cubillas, Asensi, Jara, Brindisi and Chumpitaz.

The same youtube channel has also an Eusebio compilation.

Thanks for this. I did not have access to that paper that day, so his data of that season should look like this:

    1973/1974
    La Liga: 26 games – 16 goals + 14 assists
    Friendlies: 12 games – 8 goals + 9 assists
    Total: 38 games – 24 goals + 23 assists

Regarding that friendly: Cruyff indeed set up the first goal with a cross and then was subbed out after 55 minutes. The game was of "discrete" quality of play, according to Mundo Deportivo, but entertaining, nevertheless. Cruyff was the center of attention and his dribblings and backheels were the primary highlights of the match, but very little else.

I will continue with the 77/78 season once I get the chance.

Now I will resume with the 77/78 season.

The last match I had covered before I was away for many months was La Liga: 16/10/1977 --- Hércules Alicante 2-1 Barcelona

    Cruyff's next game was played on: 19/10/1977 --- AZ67 (NED) 1-1 Barcelona [EC-3, 2nd rnd]

Headline: "Good draw in a great dual"

Barcelona knew they had a respectable adversary, which at their home is tough to beat, and from the very beginning attacked, while the azulgrana were more concerned in controlling the midfield. After the match the draw was deemed as valuable and positive looking forward.

As was expected, Arnts from the start was given the task in marking Cruyff, and he "nullified" him from the field in the first half. Cruyff was more concerned in containing the opponent, as was the case with most of Barcelona's attackers. In that first half AZ67 dominated most of the play, with GK Artola making several notable saves, but it was in the 41st minute that the home side took the lead through Nygaard, after the defense fell asleep with their defensive rotations. 1-0 into the half.

In the 46th minute Cruyff, "perhaps in his only moment of class in the match", ran and beat three defenders and crossed to Neeskens for the equalizer. But that was all that Barcelona had to offer. The home team continued to control the rest of the game but was held at bay by the visiting side.

After the match Michels stated "I think the result is fair. We worked hard all match long and we were rewarded."

Cruyff was also satisfied: "It was a good game and after this result I think we are in the right path to going forward."

    Summary: 1 assist

Just to remind those that are new and unfamiliar with this thread: the match report summaries from his Barcelona career is taken from a combination of Barcelona newspapers of La Vanguardia and Mundo Deportivo, which can now be accessed online.

La Liga: 30/10/1977 --- Barcelona 5-0 Las Palmas

Headline: "Clearer victory in result than on the field"

    "The blowout was somewhat unexpected".

"Las Palmas kept Barcelona in check for the entire first half."

"Only after the break when Las Palmas physically dropped was Barcelona able to take advantage."

"Neeskens, who was marking Brindisi, had more freedom in the 2nd half."

"Cruyff was impeccably marked by Felipe. Granted that the Dutchman didn't force himself too much, but two magical moments of his genius produced two more goals."

"Barcelona improved in the 2nd half, but the result was a bit misleading."

In 32 minutes Barcelona converted 5 goals: Asensi was brought down and Zuviria put the PK away. Moments later Heredia was brought down and another penalty: Zuviria again beat GK Carnevalli. 13 minutes later Neeskens headed home Heredia's cross. 3-0. In the last 5 minutes Cruyff received a pass from Zuviria and chipped his shot over Carnevalli. 4-0. One minute later Cruyff sent Heredia through for the final goal.

Final impressions: "Barcelona had more difficulties than expected. Las Palmas defended and it took two consecutive penalties to open up the game. Only when Las Palmas dropped their resistance was Barcelona able to create clear elaborate chances."

Carnevalli: "I didn't see any fouls. They didn't exist."

Munoz (manager of Las Palmas): "The ref joined in on the party."

Michels: "Our first half display left a lot to be desired."

    Summary: 1 goal, 1 assist

    02/11/1977 --- Barcelona (w. pens) 1-1 AZ67 (NED) [EC-3, 2nd rnd]

Headline: "Barcelona was only better in the execution of penalties"

"Barcelona was missing several starters like Clares and Zuviria in attack and Ramos in defense, but their bench is filled with players that are resourceful. Michels replaced Ramos with Amarillo and Rexach was introduced into the starting lineup in attack. This put Cruyff in his usual position on the left wing and Rexach on the right, while Heredia operated up front."

"Barcelona did well not to take this game for granted, based on the notion that they knew well that the draw in the first leg gave them the edge, but this same opponent had also defeated them in a friendly in August in Amsterdam, and was capable of any surprise. AZ67 is a rough and rugged team that bases their strength not in individuality but in the work of a collective unit. Hard and tenacious, they set up a match which was filled with strength and difficulty."

In effect, in took 32 minutes after a PK was awarded to Barcelona for a handball so that they could take the lead. Rexach sent the GK the wrong way and the home side breathed with some tranquility. The first half drifted away in what was a hotly contested battle, filled with enthusiasm at the expense of lots of energy.

"AZ67 imposed their rhythm in the 2nd half and put in anger the continuity of Barcelona's European campaign."

The start to the 2nd half saw AZ67 make some changes which modified some of their defensive positions, but Arnts continued to shadow Cruyff and Neeskens continued to battle it out with Peter in midfield. Desperate, AZ67 came out and pushed Barcelona back for the first 20 minutes or so, but couldn't create any serious danger. As time went on, Barcelona grew tired and showed signs of nerves. In effect, with 15 minutes remaining, an error from the backline of Barcelona left Kist all alone with GK Artola, and he drew level. A draw that was seen as "justifiable and well earned" for what was transpiring throughout the game.

Michels, realizing some of his men were tired, replaced Heredia with Esteban and sent Cruyff to operate up front, but nothing changed as the game progressed into overtime. Barcelona had the better chances in extra-time, but the counterattacks of AZ67 were dangerous. Finally, it took a penalty miss by Nygaard so that Barcelona could go through to the next phase. Cruyff, of course, had put his PK away.

After the match Michels said: "We had more ice-cold veins in the penalty shootout. Cruyff is at 70% of his physical condition, still recovering from injury."

AZ67's manager said "without Cruyff and Neeskens, Barcelona is a vulgar team."
