He just got picked up by Chelsea. He is only 15 so at least 3 more years till we hear much about him

But we have youth strikers at River Plate, Atletico Madrid, and two players at Real Madrid. Our next sub 20 should be pretty impressive

    Link?

I remember first hearing about this kid after a pony futbol tournament a few years back. Word was that he was something of a prodigy. He turned out to be our best player and top scorer in the last sub-15 sudamericano. Probably would have been player of the tournament if not for Brazil's Mosquito. He was pretty good.

Best of luck to him if it's true.

It's good to see big clubs looking at our youth players especially ones this young. Hopefully Barca or a team that actually uses youth players start picking up our guys.

Joao played in a friendly game today against Arsenal u18s, Chelsea lost 3-2 but both goals were scored by Joao.

He played as a no 10 behind the CF. In the beginning of the match he wasted 3-4 chances but gradually grew into it. His first goal was a tap in after a shot from the Chelsea CF was parried by Arsenals GK. Then he made a brilliant dribble almost from our area, beat 2-3 players before almost scoring, his shot was parried away by the keeper.

His second goal was really wonderful, got the ball 25 yards away from goal, Arsenal shepherd him wide but he cuts inside, wriggles through Siemann and drives home. That's 3 goals for him in 2 pre season games & he's looking very sharp. Him & another lad are the two most impressive so far for Chelsea u18s pre season games.

There is also a game tomorrow, however after playing almost an hour he's not likely to start tomorrow. After that game, team flies to Asia for more friendly games.

(updates were through two chelsea fans on twitter, Sam & UoS)

Thanks once again for the updates bluerebelz.

He seems to be playing a lot like a modern 10 which will have many of us here in the Colombian forums excited. Hope he keeps up the good work and continues to impress.

Joao played about last 30 mins of today's friendly game. Did not score but was very lively, and denied 2-3 times by the oppo keeper. He has that slaloming run in which he can go past 2-3 players in a single dribble. pre-season games are not televised nor any highlights are available. But hopefully he'll get plenty playing time for the u18 & NextGen series, for which there will be highlights. He looks really promising & bright.

Played again yesterday against a Championship teams u18 side, on the left & was visibly frustrated due to being out of position. Joao is a no 10 playmaker, so he's more prone to come central & pick up the ball. Still did quite well, nearly scored with a good interchange of play but the keeper ade a great save. So far things are promising.

Still things are not clear about permanent move, but for the first time ChelseaTV showed his 2 goals against Arsenal & mentioned him in yesterdays match report, which might indicate he is likely to join us permanently.

He's just 16! He's not included in the NextGen squad, due to things still not being clear of his eligibility to play(intercontinental ban on u18 players transfers). But if he has got Latin connections & possible Italian passport then he might play.

Chelsea u18s took part in a tournament at Man united, in their training ground(arranged by mufc every year in pre season, teams were mufc, arsenal, us, tottenham, villa). No spectators were permitted(behind closed door games) so not much information how Joao played. Except that, he scored 2 goals against manutd counterparts yesterday, in a 2-1 win(last game of the tourno).

What's it going to take for Chelsea to sign this kid especially since he is only 16 and scoring like crazy for your U18s. I'd prefer he go to Udinese or a team that actually gives their youth players chances.

Well we all hope that, but given Udineses scouting resource, they would have signed him long ago if they thought highly about him/u18 Int transfer ban could have had effect/probably more dosh involved, than what Udinese usually pays/Joao is a no 10, do Udinese really use such a playmaker?

Besides that, I think he's likely to join us full time. His dad left work back home to move in England. Surely if it's not permanent he'd have never done that.

That is what he said. This news is about a week old. Kind of awesome but hope he doesn't end up like the other youth kids we have in England who we hear a lot about and nothing much happens with them
