Ji Dong-won and South Korea claimed an Olympic bronze medal as they beat rivals Japan in Cardiff.
The Koreans were beaten by Brazil in the semi-finals but recovered well to see off the Japanese and claim third place in the tournament.
It was a feisty clash between two competitive sides with Sunderland striker Dong-won again handed a start after starring against Great Britain in the quarter-finals.
The Koreans took the lead on 38 minutes when Arsenal striker Park Chu-Young twisted and turned before beating Japanese keeper Shuichi Gonda with a fine low shot.
The Taeguk Warriors were on their way and didn't look back against a Japan side who hadn't conceded a goal in the tournament prior to their semi-final defeat to Mexico.
Koo Jacheol doubled the lead just before the hour, latching onto a huge clearance from keeper Jung Sungryong to net from 15 yards.
Japan had a goal disallowed late on but the Koreans held out comfortably to ensure they would return home with a medal.
Yo, they DO look alike, right?
LOL nice. We'll play this song every time JDW stuffs up (hopefully not too many because this song is repetitive and gets annoying).
Found this on Sunderland's FB
We should look at south Korea left back Yun Suk-Young, looks decent!
Use Ji's influence
is Matt someone of influence at the club? If not then his words have no more pull than any of ours
I would assume no. In fact thats the general premise I read anything on twitter.
A very interesting read - interview with Jonathan Wilson.
As an aside, I think wickham has shown up in a few rumors already (e.g. + cash for fletcher)
nope, just something i found interesting cause he actually knows who YSY is
Bardsley, Wes Brown, and Sessegnon are sidelined with injury for the season opener against Arsenal. Maybe with this we can expect Ji to start.
That seems like asking a lot given zero practice with the team... is he even back in England?
good point and idk if he is but MON did say that he would not have much rest from olympics. He should be back in England before the game and hes been training and playing in games as well. But the fact is that Sess being injured will up his chances, unless MON uses Wickham instead which imo is a god awful decision
Imagine if JDW opens the EPL for us by scoring against goddamn Arsenal? That's be so sweet.
an extra time winner or a hattrick?
A hat trick would be awesome.
after injury-time winner, lifts up jersey revealing shirt that says "free park chuyoung" on the front and "f*ck wenger" on the back.
^ So I guess he won't be playing Sat.
With no Asamoah Gyan and Nicklas Bendtner, the forward position is ripe for the taking. Baby Ji just has to be up to form...
well no point in watching then
Don't be so pessimistic guys! Ji to start and bring acrimonious tears to the eyes or Arse Wanker.
He's not playing. He won't be back until the end of the month.
