Jesus Antonio Vazquez Ocampo; a '95 defender from San Luis Obispo, CA; was an unused sub for the Tigres U-20s this weekend. His Liga MX profile shows no previous Mexican league experience.

    Here's a nice profile:

The rest is history for Jesus, who was picked for the “national showcase” in Los Angeles and subsequently received tryouts for five teams in Mexico.

Jesus said he was cut by the first team he tried out for, which made him realize he would have to give it his all to prevent his dream from slipping away.

His second tryout was with Tigres UANL (which stands for Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, the public university of the Mexican state of Nuevo León). Nuevo León is a northern Mexican state, and the Tigres are based in a suburb of Monterrey, the state capital, about 150 miles south of Laredo, Texas.

That article says he's getting a U20 callup from Ramos.

Surprised in a good way USsoccer already knew about him since last cycles Alonso Hernandez incident. Hopefully they know about Dennis Lopez too. Important to to note Alianza helped him become a pro like Lopez and others. Outstanding organization and a big plus for the US program

Anyone know what position he plays?? From the description sounds like a midfielder.

Can't believe you were all either 1) oblivious to the fact that I linked from this thread BACK TO THIS THREAD in response to a question asked in this thread or 2) too nice to say anything. (I wasn't being clever. Thought this was in the YNT forum when I posted that.)

    Sigh.

At the very least, it's cool to see a guy like this (essentially out of nowhere, no previous YNT experience, shows up in Mexico as many players do without much fanfare) get a first look at this level and earn a second.

He is listed on the roster of the Tigres U-2os, but has not appeared in a game so far during the 2014 Apertura. He was an unused sub for them today.

During the 2014 Clausura he made 8 starts for the Tigres U-20s. He picked up 5 yellow cards and 1 red card.

The guy in the article you linked is a '94 named Vazquez at Leones Negros who Transfermarkt says is Mexican-born (contradicting Tom's article FWIW) and whose full name seems to be Jesus M. Vazquez Delgadillo, according to this article:

    http://www.lamisionerosfc.com/index.php/news/136-jesus-vazquez-a-part-of-the-2013-copa-mx

The guy this thread refers to is a '95 named Vasquez at Tigres who has been called up by Tab.

Still, nice to see a potential U23-eligible guy with Liga MX minutes. Mods, could we fix the thread title?

    EDIT: Fixing last name confusion.

So the US could potential field a team with 2 Jesus Vazquezes and 2 Miguel Ibarras and then fill in the rest of the squad with players named Johnson?

Little-known fact*: That exact thing actually already happened during a road qualifier for Belgium '64. You can still find the radio call online on some file-sharing sites, and it's damn good listening.

I've noticed this summer that the LigaMX site slowly updates their database. From what I could tell, they purged the club registration data after last season, but then only sporadically re-built it. So when some player pages showed that the player was registered to a club, others who were unquestionably under contract (e.g. Paul Arriola, Amando Moreno) were still listed as unregistered.

The Segunda Division starts a little later than Liga MX and Ascenso MX, so it seems that that data is trickling in last.

All of which is to say - Vazquez has moved to Santos Laguna, registered with their Segunda Division team.
