Soldado is a very good player but he doesn't get enough opportunity to play with so many stars in real madrid and this situation reminds me of another player Javier portillo who was a very good player but never got enough chance and now he is gone and i haven't heard anything on him. i think that if soldado doesn't get enough playing time he will end up like portillo who was a future star and now is not. what do you think? and does anybody know where portillo is playing now?

I thought Portillo was actually sold to one of the newly promoted teams in La Liga. With an option to buy him back after a year. Not sure about Soldado but he is a good player though like Portillo and maybe should move on two if he dosent want to waste his career. I can't see Real Madrid not importanting world stars anytime soon!

Portillo has not progressed at all since he broke into the first team at 19, despite enjoying playing time with Del Bosque and being loaned out to Fiorentina and Brugges. I think he is the typical case of a player who reaches his peak very early in his career and therefore looks better than he actually is. He is the exact same player today that he was 4 years ago, and that is just unacceptable, so Madrid cut him. I doubt if he will ever be in a top 6 team again.

Soldado looks like he has more things going for him than Portillo, he is bigger and is more dynamic and versatile - he already showed some progression last year playing for Castilla, and he is on loan to Osasuna this year with a clause that penalizes Osasuna for every game that he doesn't play, so he's going to get minutes in a good club and in European competition, so we'll find out pretty easily if he has room for progression.

I find it incredible that RM can include clauses into contracts like this.

and the clubs which we sold players like Juanfran, Soldado, Jurado and Portillo also agreed to have to pay ridiculous sums of money if those players were to play against us. Does Predrag Mihajlovic know how to do business or what? ;) :)

I totally diasgree about other clubs paying when a player is transferred. The clause could be included if it is a loan deal, but not for a transfer as the player is not ours anymore.

Ruben Soldado with a brace today for Osasuna but it should be noted that recent signing Gonzalo Higuain was given a start today!

With Real's insistance on importing talent the careers at the Bernabeu for Javier Portillo and less likely Ruben Soldado may already be over!

Portillo's RM career has been over for a while. In fact, when he looks back, riding the pine in RM and playing a few Spain U-21 games will be the highlight of his career. Hell, he can't even get a start in Nastic, which are dead last and will probably finish the season with 20 points or so. He is not a RM player and he has done nothing in the last 4 seasons to warrant him getting another chance.

Soldado is a different scenario. He is much younger and his season is being solid, not spectacular, but solid. He has earned himself another chance, and with Ronaldo, Cassano and Raul in all the blacklists that are being reported these days, he will likely get a rotation forward spot next year.

Today portillo's team Gimnastic faced soldado's team Osasuna. Portillo scored but his team fell 3-2 with 2 goals from soldado. happy for both of them because they both have been scoring.
