11/28/10 2100 CET 1500 EST Stade de Gerland Well here it is, OL v. PSG. Met earlier in the league cup in an exciting game, with PSG coming out on top. Hopefully we can get a bit of revenge here to start climbing further up the table. We sit at 8th place now with 22pts and PSG is above us at 4th with 23, and with Brest and Rennes not capitalizing in their games and with Montpellier getting smacked, we could potentially be in 3rd place with a good victory here. Most notably we're going to be without Gourcuff, who has a calf injury and Cris whose also injured. Melvut Erding is injured for PSG and they have Sahko and Chantome out with suspension. Le groupe lyonnais : Lloris, Vercoutre - Cissokho, Diakhaté, Gassama, Kolodziejczak, Lovren, Réveillère - Bastos, Gonalons, Källström, Makoun, Pied, Pjanic, Toulalan - Briand, Gomis, Lacazette, Lisandro. Le groupe parisien : Coupet, Edel - Armand, Z.Camara, Ceara, Jallet, Makonda, Tiene, S.Traoré - Bodmer, Clément, Makelele, Nêne, Sessegnon - Giuly, Hoarau, Luyindula, Qasmi. ALLEZ L'OL
i hope we dont see another game where lyon has trouble showing up the team is not in its best, some players need a wake up call... but hey it could be worse
a good 20 minutes for lyon, finding space, having more and better chances than PSG, players look like they want it
from one angle it looked like the player fell over, but canal + showed it again and there was some definitely contact, still debatable from a front view 2-1 for PSG
a high quality match from both sides. two lucky breaks from PSG blunders (edel and sessegnon) but the draw was deserved. both PSG goals come from actions where lyon is, not exactly unlucky, but far from outclassed: RVR is surprised by hoarau's dribble on the first, but le grand dadais had been put onside by a cissokho brainfart. in my mind aly is more to blame for that one than for the penalty. unfortunate for him to be instrumental in both goals given up because apart from that (big apart) he had his best game in a long time, he's been pale. J2M came on for toulalan at half and was enormous too. but above all, gomis was a monster, so good he got cheered instead of booed! imagine that!
There have been far too many huge defensive blunders from Lyon this season. If the team doesnt rectify that quickly it will be the cause of much chagrin at the end of the championat. The team did well in attack, lots of determination and loads of shots on goal. had a few more been on target we may have won the game.
That was a pretty good game. At least in the first half I thought OL were the far better team, and things didn't start to even out until the second. Makoun played better than I've seen him in a while. Looked like a different player out there. I liked Pjanic, Kallstrom and to a lesser extent Bastos on the night too. I think Gomis a fine game, but he could have had so much more, if you would have converted one of the dozen chances he had in the first. Gomis off the ball and link up play yesterday was excellent, but If you're gonna put yourself in excellent scoring position (which he does often), how bout finishing a few eh? If he was more clinical in front of a goal, he could be a world class player. I was banging my head against the wall when he smashed that open header into the ground right in front of goal. It's strange what his deal is, his technique is pretty good, he should score more. But hey I wouldn't be writing this right now if he had shot that volley in the 92nd minute and won the game in legendary fashion. And He does have 5 goals in 15 league appearances so maybe I making an issue of nothing.
Pjanic really? guy hasn't had a good start to finish game, he didn't do bad but he didn't do great either, kept possession but really didn't shine
He didn't have an excellent match, but I thought he did a good job keeping the midfield in shape and moving the ball around.
i see what you mean, but i think he started to get more into the game when makoun came on, which is what we are supposed to see when gourcuff is partnered with pjanic, ive been waiting for the chemistry between Lilo, gourcuff and pjanic to really start to show, so far only slight glimpses
oh no, the issue is spot on, and everyone including bafé knows it. that last minute volley would have been indeed legendary, but to my count he had 3 out of 10 shots on target, that's about what we averaged as a whole... what about those two great balls he chested down for bastos and pjanic? those might have been better hit as well! i agree. i think he did fine in the role he had. makoun had a great half with more desire than he's shown in all his other appearances in 2010 put together, but his positioning was the root of our defensive problems. either he had to stay posted in front of the defense or the backline had to move up to close that gap, because that's where the danger came from every time. seeing the imprecision in their offside trapping i tend to feel the defenders were to blame. but diakhaté, lovren and cissokho are all loaded with talent, and have all given excellent matches. in fact, taken individually, each player in our back 5 was very good sunday! the key is to get a defense that works as a unit, coordinated between themselves and with the rest of the team.
you mean almost made it ALREADY! december's not even started yet! i'll go out on a real limb now and say if we win in the velo we'll be in first place on xmas.
not really. in fact bastos' shot was well hit and just missed. of the somewhere between 25 and 30 shots we took, most were medium to low probability. a given really, as the quantity of shots taken and their type are intrinsically related to each other and to the physiognomy of the match. gomis only really "blew" one chance, that topped header. one could gainsay a couple of seagull killers from outside the box but neither the decision nor the execution was shocking. and my bold statement isn't really as courageous as all that; i included a pretty big if.
