very impressed with tommy thompson. he nearly earned a second penalty when javan torre hauled him down right on the edge of the box. dylan mares looked good but lost the game by missing the pk. why does kotlov take your throw-ins??? he is your most dangerous weapon... get him in the box... makes no sense to take him out of the game like that, it's not like he has a super long throw.
shoot the damn ball is right. corrado looks like he'd rather make a pass than shoot. i was so pissed that they scored that quickly in extra time. the penalty that WAS finally given was obvious, but from my point of view, there should have been at least one more given. i haven't watched the game on my dvr yet though. the center ref and the linesman on the south touchline were horrible. coach was pretty fired up at them.
Hope the Quakes Academy don't claim to have "developed" him. Great player who was good long before he joined the quakes academy. The opportunity to play in reserve games, however, this past summer certainly didn't hurt. Some of the kids who sign HG contracts should be considered "home recruited" instead of "home grown".
Most of them are home recruited. Very few players show up at an MLS academy team and aren't already pretty damn good. Juan Agudelo, Bill Hamid, Jose Villareal, Diego Fagundez, Kellyn Acosta, Carlos Salcedo, etc... MLS teams might sharpen them and work out some rough spots but it's not like these players weren't really good before they got to MLS academies. Of course, the same thing can be said about college development, too. Any player in MLS that played college soccer was pretty damn good when he got to college. The colleges usually help their development, but much of the growth for college soccer players is as much a combination of natural physical maturation and the mental and emotional growth that comes from being at college. That doesn't mean college soccer doesn't help, but it's not like colleges are taking loads of players who aren't MLS prospects and turning them into MLS players.
Tommy still has a ways to go. He makes a lot of speculative passes that don't make it to the intended target. That, of course, ends the possession. Still, he is fun to watch.
Legit work. Thanks man. You don't see too many people take the time to DVR a game, record it with their camera, edit the video, then post it. Awesome. Thompson's best attribute is drawing fouls by far. What an intense player. Someone you love to play with for sure.
he needs to put on about 20 pounds too. if he could absorb some of the contact instead of getting knocked off the ball, he'd be a lot more dangerous.
Not disagreeing that he needs to get stronger, but he's got a solid enough frame, and he's already shown the toughness to hold up to MLS reserve competition. The only problem is that he just turned 18. He'll get there.
just got a text that my little bro got his acceptance letter to iu today. no shot in hell of playing for the hoosiers, but he will be a solid addition to the water ski team.
Of possible interest: Portland just acquired Brad Ring, who played under Timbers coach Caleb Porter at IU when he was an assistant there.
Interesting comment about the PK call and the game in general by Sope Creek (who was at the game; I watched a terribe feed on CSTV) on Indiana Rivals site. In it he says UAB took a number of cheap shots at IU players. One of those forced Lax out of the game. Strange that Getman's team would play like that given his IU heritage.
I don't even know what to say. Remember that Soderlund was out with injury, altho Colin did well. The WVU "internationals" had some truly great shots, esp. the game winner. The good news, if there can be any, is that we scrambled several times to get back in the game. We also (finally) made some (IMO) much-needed changes, putting Lax in the back and Bushue up front and it worked. Bushue had a h3ll of a game, but to no avail. Vollmer came in and played well, too, both in the midfield and on defense. We are still playing a much too porous, passive defense. We are also missing way too many sitters on offense. WVU made the most of their chances & we didn't. Growing pains...
Karma is a great equalizer. Indiana was a deserved champion last year but any champion gets its share of breaks. IU got some last year. Eventually the breaks go the other way for awhile. Better to have them now than when the weather gets cold.
Absolutely right! The IU championships were charmed runs. It takes a tremendous team, but it can't really be done without a few strokes of luck. Maybe incentive for the rest of the season? Still early.
