Some early rumors!!! Liverpool could make a move for Udinese striker Luis Muriel should Luis Suarez leave Anfield in the summer.. Why can't we make the move even if we keep Suarez? More firepower never hurts! Manchester United are leading the race to sign Sporting Lisbon's Carlos Mane, but Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham also keeping tabs on the highly-rated winger...Arsenal and Liverpool have been told they will need to stump up £10m if they want to land Mathieu Valbuena from Marseille..Liverpool are lining up a move for Valencia midfielder Dani Parejo, who previously spent four months on loan with QPR.
Also, reports we have deal on the table for Sagna who is available on a free this summer, as will Ashley Cole, who we've been linked with. Sagna reportedly to decide where he'll play next season some time in March, presumably after Arsenal have lost their chance to win anything again this year.
Cashley Cole no thanks. Disloyal, money grubbing antics have no place at a big, classy club like Liverpool. He and Torres can go play in Qatar.
I would guess that Konoplyanka is gonna happen this summer. A year left on his deal, a buyout clause which will be harder for Dnipro to evade in the summer (we triggered it on the last day of the window, which was a mistake), and the player wants to come here. If we can keep Suarez we'll be sitting pretty.
Not even convinced he be an upgrade on anyone but Aly at this point. Sagna though would be an interesting shout on a 2 year deal for reasonable money as a replacement for Johnson. Didn't realize he's 31. Think Johnson has something to prove in the next few months to show its worth giving him another high salary contract. The LFC links to both players are likely agent generated trying to shake down their existing clubs for new deals.
I see neither deal happening. Beware of Coles from Chelsea. Rumour on Sagna just sounds like his agent is trying to force Arsenal to accede to one more pay day or Liverpool trying to force Johnson to take a pay cut.
I really like Ben Davies from Swansea. He's pretty much an ever present at LB for them and is only 20. He certainly looked the part tonight against Napoli. Enrique seems to me to be a liability at this point with all the injury problems he's had. Aly is Ok, though not brilliant and only on loan. Not sure what Davies is valued at, though since he's Welsh the English premium won't be in play. Flanno on the right, Davies on the left. That could work.
That certainly worked in our favor when we signed Joe Allen You think Bale would have cost more if he'd been English?
The key for anyone to get Davies is to make a move before Chelsea buys Luke Shaw and sets a premium for a young first team quality British LB. Also, with Gerry Monk managing Swansea now his relationship with BR could possibly help us with any transfer dealings with them.
Liverpool and Manchester City face competition from Dutch giants Ajax to land wonderkid winger Richairo Zivkovic from FC Groningen While Shaw is the better of the two, I've been wondering why Davies hasn't gotten more press. While I'd be happy to sign him, I'd rather not go spending more than 10m on a LB.
[Insert obligatory big spending thesis here] You're asking for trouble starting this thread, this early.
Looking at his ESPN page he should get way more attention. Played 74 games this season for 5 different teams. Clearly has Superman levels of stamina
Here's here! Quick - someone change the thread title to something like "Only enter if you support sound financial decisions in the transfer market - summer transfer thread." I'd like Konoplyanka. You can never have enough quality wide attacking players, unless you're Chelsea. It'd be nice if we could also sign a striker or two that was actually good at putting the ball in the back of the net. Top priority should be all four defensive positions and the Lucas role. We could use at least one more central midfielder to provide some tactical flexibility.
I'd really only like Kono although it's unclear what could happen with Assaidi and Borini. If those two are good enough for the squad, I don't think we need more wide attackers. The priority has to be another defensive-capable CM. Gerrard, Allen, Henderson, and possibly Lucas will not hold up with European fixtures and the World Cup. This is the area of most need imo.
