I don't think it was different in any other time.

And, yes, of course, there were people that voted for McCain who were just as ignorant.

The people can't be trusted, I'm all for a meritocracy, but it will never happen.

Most likely wasn't, or ever will be different.

These clips represent exactly the reason why Electors were put into the Constitution. The assumption that electors would be more informed and therefore better voters.

Of course, it's to the point where the person with the majority of votes sends his electors to vote and very rarely do those electors NOT vote for the person that sent them there.

I love these kinds of videos...sort of the political version of Jay Walking.

Who is watching SOTU? I need some sane opinions to balance the five minutes I spent in the Politics forum.

I won't get into the specifics about his plans and goals because none of us will agree on those but I have a couple things about the speech.

Ummmm.... really? Does anyone actually believe we are living in a great historical time like that? I would bet that in a hundred years or so this time period will be treated the same as the late 19th century. Slow economic times, minor military actions and a disconnected public.

This speech seemed petulant and snarky compared to his most of his past speeches and any SOTU I can remember. I really hated his attempt to intimidate the Supreme Court and urge Congress to fix a SCOTUS decision he doesn't like.

Even the parts I liked about this speech, even if I believed all the stuff he said, I doubt Obama's ability to get what he wants from Congress. I said this a long time ago and no one listened but I find his political capital extremely weak and Congress can smell blood in the water.

I wonder how he'd react if someone told him the Pilgrims who landed at Plymouth rock were communists

    1. Minnick's not that bad even though he's a Democrat, though he's somewhat rank-and-file which pisses me off. Not like Brown will get out of the primary to face him in the general anyway.

    2. I'm in District 2, which has the eternal scourge of Mike "If we don't pass this bailout we'll collapse" Simpson.

    3. You're a prick, Stimson! :p
