Wondering why don't they have live streaming video from the surface? If the Apollo Astronauts were able to supply live video from walking down the stairs from the ship to step foot on the survace of the moon back in the 60's, why don't we have the technology to be able to transmit live streaming video from Mars?

dude the difference between earth/moon to earth/mars (alternates) is about a 199 million km difference.

Supposedly they cant even control the robot in real time because of that huge ass distance....

I went to get into photographing the night sky. A digital camera attached to a spotting scope.

Light time from earth to mars is about 14 minutes

the main reason is because NASA would rather spend time and energy of the rover producing science rather than producing videos.

So why can't they use satellite feeds to transmit video like they do hear on Earth? A satellite dish on the ground that sends a video signal up to an orbiting satellite that relays the video signal.

Would have been nice to have a rover with a satellite dish that could send a video signal up to an orbiting probe in space above Mars, then relay that signal to Earth. So we can all watch a video feed being broadcast from the surface of Mars.

the satellites around earth that transmit tv signals are dedicated to that and only that. around Mars we have limited resources

the rovers communicate with earth exactly how you describe

Yep, until we can send a serious amount of hardware up to Mars, we'll have to live with it. Can't wait for the day when our space transport tech gets to that level.

When I saw this picture, kind of sucks how only caucasian people in the NASA contol center. Why don't they let any of the brothers behind the joystick of the Mars Curiosity Rover? I want to add some funky music called, "joystick" by the "Dazz Band" to show that the brothers can do it too. But won't because they won't allow the music video in this thread since it is a science thread. I put the music video in the "What's in your CD player" thread.

I am going to try to send email to NASA and ask if they can name a crater, mountain or rock after BSMX or Mr. Futbol.

If there is water on Mars, why isn't there vegetation since the atmosphere is suppose to be carbon dioxide which the plants love to breath in and convert it to oxygen which they exhale

You're thinking about Earth plants. Who knows what Martian plants breathe in and out. Another thing, it's too cold for Earth plants and lastly, not much light for chlorophyll to work, I think.

Also from what I understand, the water is frozen in the ground.
