Eloquently stated, but incorrect. A conflict of interest would arise if Garber had a vested interest in one team vs. the rest (ie. my tongue-in-cheek remark about him owning the Revolution). All sports leagues hire a non-invested person to run the league for that very reason. What you are describing is sounds more like unfair competition (not sure exactly what you're saying). It's definitely not conflict of interest, though

Well...."just commissioner" is a bit of an understatement there. He is probably the most powerful or the 2nd most powerful man in American soccer, period. Mark Abbott is the President and DEPUTY Commissioner. So, he reports to the Don, who still calls the shots. Also, I believe he is also on the MLS Board of Governors (don't quote me on that). If he is, that adds even more weight to the considerable power and influence he has.
