Wrestling is back in the Olympics. Logically and Factually. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/wrestling-regains-place-olympic-sports-roster-155521800.html No such luck for Baseball, Squash.
factually and logically, baseball and squash are not real sports. therefore, it does not make sense to mention them. Irans medal count will now not be affected! argentinas will... remain unchanged.
True. But on the other hand Argentines are not the ones who are known to butcher philosophy and logic on Bigsoccer.
In Teherangeles? Probably more Persians in the crowd than Americans. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FILA_Wrestling_World_Cup
Wasn't the World Cup actually held in Iran? Iran beat the US in a dual meet in LA though. The US has a good program, but Iran are the best. We have some good kids coming up though, Dake, Burroughs, they will be good for years to come.
Iran is better than US overall, but Burroughs is the single most dominant Free-Style wrestler in the World in my opinion, more dominant than anything Iran has. In Greco-Roman though, Sourian is arguably the most dominant.
That was last year. Its held anually. This year LA hosted the World Cup. Iran won it again after beating Russia. The US does have some real upcoming talents. This latest encounter between the US and Iran was much closer. I think it ended 4-3. Different weight-class, but I think a pretty good case can be made for Reza Yazdani. However I have to give the edge to Burroughs. They are both beasts though.
My girls also wrestle at the youth level and my daughters took 1st and 2nd in their weight classes in our State Tourney this weekend. Thing is youth wrestling in the US is all folkstyle with limited freestyle during the "offseason" In Iran do you wrestle mostly if not always free style and Greco? There is no doubt that Iran are the class of the World in wrestling. We have some good wrestlers in the US, but we aren't a complete team. Watch Dake, he is a very good wrestler, hes going to have to change weight though to avoid Burroughs. LOL
Iranian folk wrestling is similar to Free-Style, which is why Iran was always good in Free-Style, almost always ranked top 3 along with US and USSR, but sucked badly at Greco-Roman for decades, and had never won a single World Championship Gold medal in Greco-Roman until 2001 I believe. However, in the last decade, Iran became very good at Greco-Roman solely due to the brilliance of a world-class coach named Mohamad Bana, so much so that Iran now wins more medals in Greco-Roman than it does in Free-Style.
