    Hello, bonjour, hola, tak, etc.

Some of you might already know me...

I'm Martin, aka Smiffy/Smiffer/Smiffyboy/Oi You, from London (England) originally, emigrated to Toronto, Barnet FC fan (that's way, way down in the English League Two for the uninitiated), Toronto FC fan, tall, handsome, sparkling wit, etc :D My hobbies include x-country skiing, amateur porn (often at the same time) and stalking BA (whatever you are called on here).

Where are you BA? I see you got banned again :D Elephant poop indeed! LMAO!

    Thank You David Beckham

Hey! I should start of by saying I was motivated to join this site because of David Beckham playing tonight in D.C. I've been playing soccer for 20 years now. I started playing as a 9 year old in the mid-80's in the U.S. so like a lot of people here, I have seen the sport grow. I gotta say, by watching D.B. tonight, I feel like soccer is on the brink of blowing up in this country. I mean, look at the other sports:

Baseball? Bonds breaks the biggest record of them all and seems like no one really cares.

Basketball? Well, I've just never been a fan of the NBA so I can't really come up with anything.

Football? Too many players doing too many dumb things.

Anyway, I'm just pumped for the US socccer explosion. Like I said, I started playing soccer when I was 9. When I was 8 I wanted to play football, but my parents said it was too dangerous (a local college player had broken his neck playing for the Citadel and was paralyzed for life). So, they let me play soccer, and after breaking my nose twice and knocking out three or four teeth, I am so glad I play soccer. From my first game (played in jeans with the shingaurds strapped on the outside - true story) to winning tournaments in college to now just playing in a local recreational league, I am in love with this sport.

    Hello,

I've known about BigSoccer for awhile now through my brother who's been a member for a few years. I'm a Manchester City and DC United fan, but I'm really signing up b/c I am starting my first fantasy Premiership season and I figure this is probably the place to be to get input on who to sign etc...
In any case, I'm glad to be a part of the group.

    Best,

    Rasthedoctor

Hi, I'm Perry and live near Denver CO. I've been a baseball nut for 40+ years but didn't fall in love with soccer until last summer during the World Cup. Subscribed to FSC, GolTV, and Setanta and spent all last season immersed in the Prem and La Liga, recording games on the weekend and watching them through the week (thanks Tivo!). I tried to have an open mind regarding which team to support, but quickly gravitated to Arsenal, partly because of their style but also probably because I'm a big Nick Hornby fan and enjoyed reading Fever Pitch long before I got the bug myself. Just spent two weeks in London visiting my girlfriend's family and made the pilgrimage to the Emirates but mistimed the trip for seeing any games! My girlfriend's dad isn't a big football follower but supported Charlton Athletic as a youth and still lives in the area so I follow them as well. Now they've been relegated I don't have to worry about divided loyalties, at least this season.

I also support Barcelona and have season tickets for the Colorado Rapids in MLS. I often go with a friend who played soccer in college and educates me about tactics and such.

Can't wait for Sunday! Go Gunners!

Hey everyone! My name is Paige, I'm 25 and pretty stoked to find this board. I played soccer competitively for 14 years and now play in a rec league a few friends from college and I put together. I don't really have a favorite team or player, but I look forward to becoming a part of the community.

Well, I have been trolling on BS for about 2 1/2 years now, but finally decided time was here to start posting and buy a sub!!

I follow both the local clubs (LA Galaxy and Chivas USA), yank-friendly EPL clubs (Fulham, Reading), and Liverpool (family comes from there).

My wife is finally coming around, having completely loved a recent LAG match we went to (first one 1 took her to after 9 years of marriage... hey it took a while). She demanded that I buy my own Tivo just for recording soccer games and soccer-related shows, because I was clogging up the other Tivo (which I love her for :D)

My oldest daughter's favorite team is Chelsea and most particularly Frank Lampard, but I still love her.

My younger daughter loves the POOOOOL, so she is obviously my favorite.

One of my biggest regrets of my life is giving up soccer when I went to college.. I wasnt a half bad fullback...

    Hello everyone!!!

Hiya folks. I'm am Anglotexian from the UK. I have recently adopted Houston Dynamos as my club in US, this is because I have a friend form Houston. I know absolutely nothing about the club except for what I have gleaned from the Dynamo website. So if any Dynamos "Texians" can give me a "leg up" the fans ladder and tell me who the flair players, midfield generals, Stars etc. are I would be most grateful. I support Shrewsbury Town F.C. in Division Two of the Coca Cola league. http://www.shrewsburytown.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Home/0,,10443,00.html

It is gonna be an exciting season for us at Shrewsbury as we have moved into a brand spankin new 10,000 all seater stadium. Expectations are high for promotion this season as we narrowly missed out on promotion via the playoffs last season, losing to Bristol Rovers 3-1 at Wembley! yes Wembley Stadium. What a day out that was! Brilliant with the result being the exception. Still going up this year we hope? watch this space.
I also hope I will be celebrating succes with Houston too, as I have deduced they are a fair side.
    anyway enough waffle from me.
Speak to you all again soon I hope?
    Anglotexian.:)

Hi everyone at Big Soccer. I live in San Diego, California and I am Mexico NT supporter. I love to support the country where I grew up. My US buddies like to give me crap because Mexico hasn't beat US in the US in while but I tell them that it doesn't matter because I'll support them through (Not trying to insult the US team).

I hope I can contribute as much as I can without creating any controversy.:D

Hi everyone. I'm from Wisconsin. I'm a fan of the Wizards and Crew along with the USNT. I have a love affair with Germany and I follow Hertha and St. Pauli the closest along with the German National Team. I support all Americans who play the game, especially those who play abroad. I wish them all well. I am a terrible player but that doesn't affect my love of the game.

    Re: Hello from Ukraine

I used to be in Ukraine (Vinnitsa, not Kiev), but not there now. Sorry :)

I actually got to be a football fan while there -- playing with mates at the weekends, and watching Serie A matches with commentary in Ukrainian. This was when Shevchenko was still with Milan.

    Счастливого проживания в Украине! Cheers!

    Um..Hello.

I'm new here. Hence me posting on this particular thread. Blimey, this hasn't started well.

Anyhoo, I'm British but having moved to California to be with my wife (she's American) I've started watching MLS. Being my most local side, I decided to lend my support to LA Galaxy. Again, they aren't doing so well. My actual die-hard support is for a small club called Manchester United. They wear red, white and black and have a devil on their badge. You may have heard of them. In all seriousness, I didn't leap on the Man U bandwagon in 1993 and enjoyed a childhood where most of my School friends followed Liverpool or Naaaarwich City (note Delia Smith on my Avatar). My Dad, being of northern essence encouraged support of the Red Devils. I recall sitting on his lap as a toddler watching Kevin Moran running around with a nasty gash in his forehead. That was my earliest footy memory. He got stretchered off after a while and stuck his thumb up to the crowd. Then he got sent off in an FA Cup final, but whatcha gonna do (we won anyway)?

    Terrible shame about Leeds United...

Hi Bigsoccer! I've been on the site before but it had been awhile and I forgot my password after the site changed over. I've been a fan of the US MNT since '98 and have become a fan of MLS (Quakes) during that time. I play soccer and fantasy soccer is a lot of fun in addition to watching domestic and international play.

Look forward to chatting with you all about US MNT, MLS, EPL and whatever other league!

    Greetings and Salutations.

I work at the website for a major newspaper in Florida, and I convinced them somehow to let me have a blog dedicated to the greatest sport in the world. (And it's actually the most popular thing on the website).

I've been told about Bigsoccer for years by friends who come here and I have finally made my way here in the hopes of expanding my knowledge of the beautiful game while engaging in some great discussion.

Chris originally from Gaithersburg, MD. Grew up on soccer/football. Played at competition level since first grade. Joined MSI Select in high school. Didn't continue due to age difference regulations back in the day. Played intramurals in college until some jerk broke my shin bone. Yes, I had shin pads on. It was a cleats out kicking slide tackle. Full leg cast for six months.

I am also a big fan. Saw Mexico play Denmark @ RFK for WC '94. Have been to many USMNT games and originally and always a hometown fan with DC United, but attempt (last place every season) to support the Columbus Crew as I now live in Columbus.

Well, I've already started posting for a little over a month now :p, but oh well.

Hello everyone, I'm from Ontario, California and a fan of the L.A. Galaxy regionally. My favorite teams are ALWAYS the USNT and Korean NT. I play soccer for my high school as a defensive midfielder (always fun), but still only a past time for me (not as serious in a career sadly).

Looking forward to posting along with many of you guys - cya.
