He did well to win the ball back initially as well.

Gomez is really crap at the moment.

    Gomez out, Kroos on.

    It's a new experiment. :D

    Kroos on.

    Interesting.

4-3-3 or same old with Podolski up top?

4-3-3 would be idea. Kroos can inhabit central deep position Oezil did with the latter pushing up.

Oezil is now false nine, and Kroos is playing in a 3 man midfield with Gundogan and Khedira.

Would love to see Gündogan next to Schweini. It's ridiculous to see Khedira being given the license to push forward which doesn't suite his strengths and leaves the rest of the team unbalanced.

    Mertesacker just stood there.

So we have no target man, and what do our attacks look like? Overlapping wing play and crosses into the box. :(

It does suit Khedira to push forward.

Why on earth would you want Gundogan next to Schweinsteiger? They're both retainers and Gundogan is not a screener by any means. With Khedira we at least have his work-rate. Neither dual partnership is ideal to our team's strengths at the moment.

I don't expect us to perfect the formation after so little time playing it.

Keep in mind, none of these players play a 4-3-3 for their clubs so this is something new entirely.

There is way too much space between the attack and the defense.

Hummels with a great game though. Constant involvement and quick thinking.

It appears to be a straight 4-4-2 when not in possession with Oezil and Kroos playing as CFs.

It looks like the players aren't sure what formation they are supposed to be playing when in possession of the ball. Everyone looks confused.

Does anyone think this strikerless formation is working at all?

    Ribery wasted Hummels there

    Right.

Movement is better though. Marginally. If we can connect more and form that understanding, it's hopeful to see.

Not the way that Loew is implementing it.

True. Kroos and Oezil seem to have a good understanding and they are swapping positions frequently.

Fantastic pass from Oezil and a finish to match from Khedira.
