There's a lot of American influence in Iranian soccer these days. Portuguese-American Dan Gaspar and Iranian-American Omid Namazi are part of the current staff that's replacing previous Iranian-American coach Afshin Ghotbi.

Gaspar has a long history of coaching abroad. He's always been a very interesting guy with an interesting career. Dan's been successful, no doubt, but his name probably isn't as prominent as it should be. I had the pleasure of attending a goalkeeping coaching seminar a few years back that his Star Academy hosted and was astounded at the wealth of knowledge the guy had. Most of those methods he taught I use today when training keepers. I have the utmost respect for Dan and few Americans impacted the college, club, and international scene like he has. Hell, few Americans have even had a part in all three scenes aside from Arena, Bradley, and Sarachan.
