July 26th through August 4th. Manchester United, AC Milan, AS Roma, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Olympiakos and Inter Milan. All games on "FOX Sports." I assume they mean one, two, or Deportes. http://miami.cbslocal.com/2014/02/04/2014-guinness-international-champions-cup-teams-revealed/
This tournament conflicts with the Third Qualifying Round. If Manchester United finishes fifth in the Premier League they will start in the Europa League Playoff Round which doesn't conflict, and if the FA Cup winner qualifies for the Champions League the fifth place Premier League club starts in the Europa League Group Stage. It's also possible for Manchester United to miss both UEFA competitions. Inter Milan could also play in a Europa League qualifying round. @SirFozzie I think this topic will be duplicated later unless it gets stickied.
And FOX...you will see one or two games on the big network...they will do more marketing because it is right after the WC, and the interest for International Soccer could reach a new height in this country...
United won't need to be replaced because they won't have to worry about Europe at all next year. Only reason to replace them would be that the organizers wouldn't want a midtable English team involved in a cup labeled Champions.
They should make a mid table mediocrity group for this featuring both Milan clubs and United. Wish they could have brought in a PSG, Atletico Madrid or Dortmund instead of Italy vs England plus Real and Olympiakos but if you've ever heard the clueless twit who organizes this thing speak on his radio show you'll know why thats how it is.
I wonder what percent of the people attending this tournament would even know that Manchester United wasn't as good this season. Is it fair to treat Inter Milan (sixth) and Manchester United (seventh) the same way as AC Milan (tenth)? In Serie A, Inter Milan is only 4 points ahead of AC Milan, but in the EPL, Manchester United is 13 points ahead of tenth.
Pretty sure its the clubs that decide where they will go. It's not like anyone would consciously choose Olympiakos over, say, Barcelona. It seems like clubs just keep returning to the same places every summer now. FA Cup winner or FA Cup finalist. This season its looking like the FA Cup final will again feature a Cinderella team, meaning only top 6 would qualify for Europe from the league.
Correct, but please note that rule ends in 2015/16 http://www.uefa.org/MultimediaFiles...Publications/02/01/17/30/2011730_DOWNLOAD.pdf (see page 4)

United wont be replaced because they're the biggest club there along with madrid and have won more championships in recent seasons than all of those clubs put together.
haha... huge exaggeration! But, yeah, they are the most popular, no question. FYI... the Europa League's third qualifying round started on 1 August in 2013. So there is a potential conflict if the same UEFA scheduling is used next season. But because of the World Cup, maybe the UEFA calendar will get pushed back by a week or two(?).
DirecTV has just announced that the EuroAmerican Cup will return this summer: (Courtesy RapidTVNews) SA www.soccertvblog.com
I was not even aware of last years tournament. Are the matches exclusive to DirecTV subscribers, or is there provided availablity to non-satellite customers as well?
Exclusive to DirecTV. Last year's tournament had Atletico Madrid, Sevilla & FC Porto from Europe and 8 teams from South America. Eight matches in total with all the matches shown on channel 479. SA www.soccertvblog.com
Thanks. It makes sense. DTV has always searched for exclusive sports programming. After all, they signed the NFL package exclusively some years back.
