Jagielka deputised in goal twice that i can remember for us blades and we won both games. Once vs Millwall when Kevin Muscat started a half time fight with our keeper and then again vs Arsenal where he kept a clean sheet against RVP et al. For years we never bothered naming a sub keeper and always put an extra striker on the bench because they knew how good Jags was. Only place you might squeeze him on that team though is at right back over O'Shea.
How about this: Arsenal A's Adebayor-Anelka-Aliadiere Arshavin-Arteta-Armstrong Kwame Ampadu-Martin Angha-Adams-Viv Anderson Almunia Lower league legend Ampadu out of position because no left backs
Tottenham T's are harder -------------------------Taarabt Peter Taylor-Teemu Tainio-Kazuyuki Toda-Townsend Taricco-Tuttle-Thatcher-Tramezzani-Mitchell Thomas ----------------------Thortsvedt If anyone can remember Toda I'll be surprised.
In memory of Tom Finney, I think I can squeeze him in to a Best in Heaven XI: 1 - Yashin 2 - Djalma Santos 3 - Nilton Santos 4 - Bozsik 5 - Scirea 6 - Moore 7 - Garrincha 8 - Best 9 - Eusebio 10 - Puskas 11 - Finney
My tribute to Tom Finney GK: Thomas Ravelli RB: Thomas Berthold CB: Thomas Vermaelen CB: Tom Boyd LB: Tommy Gemmell RW: Thomas Hassler CM: Damiano Tommasi CM: Thomas Hitzlsperger LW: Tom Finney ST: Tommy Lawton FW: Thomas Muller I am not sure if Finney the war veteran wanted all those Germans on his team.
This has probably been covered earlier in the thread but anyway: Excellent hair XI Jason Lee-Djibril Cisse Jamie Lawrence-Valderrama-Emerson (boro)-Ibrahim Ba West-Kilcline-David Luiz-Xabier Higuita
I am trying to do a team of rivals. This will be a team of players who absolutely hate each other. So far, I have too many leftbacks and central midfielders. I need a rightback and a few flank players. Toni Schumacher & Patrick Battiston Wayne Bridges & John Terry David Batty & Graeme Le Saux Roy Keane & Patrick Vieira Rijkaard & Voller Bowyer and Dyer Di Stefano & Didi Maradona & Goikoetxea Maradona & Passarella Cantona & Ginola Suarez & Evra Gazza & Vinnie Jones Mackay & Bremner Di Canio & Lucarelli (one is right winger and the other a left winger)
Modern Players Over 40 XI GK: Edwin van der Sar RB: Javier Zanetti DC: Alessandro Costacurta DC: Paulo Maldini LB: Stuart Pearce RW: Cuauhtémoc Blanco CM: Rivaldo CM: Carlos Valderrama LW: Ryan Giggs ST: Teddy Sheringham ST: Romario
very good selection, However I would replace Rivaldo with Roger Milla, and Tony Adams in place of Stuart Pearce
Battiston was a RB until early 80s. You can add Maradona & Gentile or Maradona & Reyna or Maradona & Pelé
The team that absolutely hate each other. GK: Schumacher RB: Battiston CB: Terry CB: Goikoetxea LB: Bridges RM: Di Stefano DM: Rijkaard CM: Didi LM: Maradona FW: Pele ST: Voller -- I did not like this lineup. Maradona and Di stefano are pals. Except for Didi, Di Stefano got along with many players. -- I started Terry instead of Passarella because of Wayne Bridge. The Bridge-Terry feud is too big to ignore. I also dropped Evra and La Saux for the same reason. -- I add Pele because eleven is an odd number. I could not just do pairs. I did not think the Pele-Maradona was not a big, big feud. I also ignored Messi-Ronaldo for the same reason. I could not add Gentile because Schumacher was the only keeper that I knew of. -- I also thought the feud between Didi and Di Stefano was not too great. Teammates do not get along all the time. I wanted to put Keane/Vieira or Bremner/Mackay there in their places. Keane probably ended up fighting with Maradona. He would have be perfect. But then, I need attackers. So I have to go with di Stefano and Voller.
You're very spot on... Between Messi and CR7 actually there is no feud. It's just a silent competition for the title which is very normal. Between Didi and Di Stefano, it was worse because they did play together and fought for the same role, position (while Messi and CR7 are playing for 2 different teams and not even having a slight contact) but deep down it was a Coaching issue that Didi had with Real - as he was forced to play more like a holding and defensive MF there (to grant the role playmaker/CAM to Di stefano)
Roger Milla was so close to making it, but I just couldn't drop Teddy and Tony Adams never made it to 40, he retired at about 36 years old.
Ronaldinho Gaucho, Thiago Silva, Leônidas da Silva, etc.. No Romario for Rio? I'd take Thiago Silva or Juan over Ricardo Gomes.
Huh? Close? Milla retired at 47yrs old (the oldest) and he left WC record as the OLDEST to have scored at WC level at 42 yrs old. Rivaldo stopped playing form Brazil since 2003 (only 31yrs old) and he barely played few games in his 40 now! Tony played for NT until 42
I meant Milla was close to making my team, not close in age, I know that he played well into his 40s. I'm sorry, but you're wrong about Tony Adams, he was born in 1966 and made his last appearance for England in 2000, you do the maths.
