It's another chapter in the Milan versus Rome saga.

Looking Over Their Shoulders

Serie A leaders Inter have struggled against 'lesser' opposition this season and although they had previously garnered the wins somehow, last weekend against Atalanta they dropped two points, keeping both Milan and Juventus in the Scudetto race. The 1-1 away draw must have come as a surprise for the Nerazzurri and they would be looking to bounce back on Sunday.

Not that it will be an easy affair. After all, a seemingly resurgent Lazio come to town. However, given that Inter are yet to lose at home in the league this campaign, they wouldn't be too intimidated.

All this week Inter have been in the news for the wrong reasons. Coach Jose Mourinho reportedly said that he wants reinforcements in January but the idea was promptly dismissed by club supremo Massimo Moratti. This has led to speculation that Mourinho and Inter could part company at the end of the current campaign.

On the pitch, though, it was a different matter as the Nerrazzuri defeated Livorno 1-0 in a Coppa Italia tie on Wednesday, thereby keeping alive their hopes of a treble in 2009-2010.

Restoration On The Way

Lazio might have suffered a 1-0 defeat to Levski Sofia at home in the Europa League but they had virtually their second team playing on Thursday. And the Aquile were out of the competition anyway.

What coach Davide Ballardini would be looking at to boost his players' confidence ahead of the big clash with Inter on Sunday is last weekend's result in Serie A, also at home. Lazio's home form in the league has been embarrassing so far but last weekend they defeat Champions League hopefuls Genoa 1-0, climbing three points above the relegation zone in the process.

A win against Inter and that too in Milan doesn't look very much feasible but the side from Rome would be looking to march forward into the new year with confidence and would also like to wrap up 2009 on a high.

decent effort by Lazio...buts its obvious we need a new striker...Rocchi/Cruz can't cut it anymore. with Zarate there was really no chance of ever scoring a goal v Inter.

You meant that right? I hate to say it, once we go down a goal its not a matter of if we come back, but how many more goals the other team can win by....

yeah, I meant without zarate on the field...and its not just the strikers, I dont no why balla has faith in mauri as the creator behind them. he's got nothing in that role..

In a match where Lazio absolutly tanked it, I find the Mourinho banner, "un uomo vero in un calcio finto" quite rich.
