    Re: Logo/Kit Discussion (Part 3)

    1. I agree that they shouldn't use Queens Flag.
    2. Why is everyone so sure that this is going to be at Hofstra permanently?
It's clearly not. They are going to build a small SSS within the Boroughs, (Queens looking like the winner on this due to space issues) Hopefully for the 2011 season, maybe 2012.
So yes...it's not in Queens now, but they will play in the city as soon as they get their SSS resolved.

    Re: Logo/Kit Discussion (Part 3)

Hopefully it won't take as long as it took the Metros to build their stadium in Queens...my favorite was the plan where the team would play on the infield at Aqueduct, and the bleachers would move forward over the track for soccer and then back again for racing.

As for why I'm so sure it'll be at Hofstra permanently...it's because in the run-up, there were all sorts of rumors about how they'd be playing some games each year in the city, but the press conference just said "Hofstra". If they couldn't arrange even a few games in the city this year, I don't have high hopes for down the road.

Right now, as far as I know, there is no facility in the city where you could play a soccer game with seating for more than about 4,000 fans, with the possible exception of Baker Field. The only possibilities as I see is are that:

    1. The team will be playing in Hofstra long enough for the owners to buy land, get permits, raise funding, and build a brand new facility somewhere in New York City, which probably means four or five years--at which point moving would probably mean losing their Long Island fan base and they might well be competing with a second MLS team on Randall's Island; or

    2. The team will slap some extra bleachers on an existing soccer field, at Columbia or St. John's or somewhere; this will put them in the city but will likely still be small and sort of primitive, but will probably be expensive enough that their own facility won't be an option for a long time.

I'm sure the owners want a stadium, but if they had a real plan, we'd probably know about it by now.

    oh, that's it?

from the picture i thought there might be more to it than that, if having the fingers next to the mouth made a difference in the meaning or something.

Can somebody please explain to me how RSL gets their europosing asses handed to them by Seattle, and then beats the defending champs 4-1?

I simply don't get it. Was Frankie's absence that important to Columbus?

Watched a good part of it...from the middle third to the attacking third the Cru were complete garbage. Poor defending on at least one of the goals. Miss you Sigi!

Best reason to follow an ESPN gamecast, the commentators write anything that pops into their head. From Fulham-Liverpool

"Gerrard has put in a much better cross and, incredibly Liverpool have once more hit the crossbar with a diving header from Dossena. Liverpool have struck more wood than a porn star carpenter here"

I was at the phillies game during this game on saturday, so i was following the commentary as well. The guys who write those are great sometimes.

    Oh and btw...

Kudos to Aston Villa. AV gave up a goal at 90' to hand Man U the win. A tie would have landed Liverpool at the top of the table. Man U remains at the top by 1 point. Ahh!!!

    Oh well.

You should be happy, Corey. Not only did MUFC give up that really stupid equalizer to knot the first leg at 2-2, but Charley wanted nothing to do with United after the first 10-15 minutes or so.

All in all, quite dissapointing. :(

    I love live espn commentary!

33' - Talking of matters hirsute, I'm intrigued as to the thought process behind Benitez's goatee. Did he suddenly think hmm, I'd look great with one of those? He does not.

21'- Peter Cech's bright orange top clashes with Liverpool's red, although it does at least make him visible to any passing motorists.
