Bruce Arena quoted as saying that Donovan will definitely come back sometime this season. Here's oping it's before LAG comes to PPL.
I think its funny to read the article. It sounds like Arena talked to Landon and Donovan said something like "Sure, maybe I'll probably come back in the next year or so. Probably" and then Bruce turned around and told the PR guys "Yep he's back!". Something got lost in translation there or something. http://www.lagalaxy.com/blog/beat/2...on-donovan-return-field-2013-no-timetable-set
For all those whining about the Union's lack of ambition in finding a head coach, RBNY just dropped the "interim" tag off Mike Petke. And that team was linked with a few other head coaching candidates. So, there's that ...
Dills... Do we really want to use RBNY as our measuring stick? That would simply CONFIRM the Union's lack of ambition! Myself, and I am sure you will agree, I would hope that the organization would achieve a superiority to way things are done to the north of us.
Which is more ambitious, interviewing 10 people or hiring the guy you want to be your future head coach as an assistant? From all accounts the Union wanted Hack to be the coach after Nowak left, they just didn't think Nowak would go off the reservation and force the promotion prematurely.
If it was a sure thing, why bother with the "interim" tag? It couldn't be that the FO is being less than honest about their coaching search or lack thereof.
Even in other sports it is common to TAG someone as interim even if your plan is to officially promote them. It allows them an out if he doesn't cut it and would most likely cost less to terminate an assistant then a HC because they most likely would have to negotiate a contract without the interim tag.
Not this crap again... I can't believe that real journalists are still bandying about this idiotic $250 million number. He had the potential to make that number with endorsements. It's completely irresponsible to put forth that number as fact, and makes me absolutely sick when I see it in print. Btw, Becks seems set to sign with PSG for eleventy bajillion dollars.
Cue the newly minted PSG "fan bois" prancing around in a PSG shirt. I have yet to see a PSG shirt on US soil and in about a month from now they will be sprouting like weeds.
He may be cocky, arrogant and had a sense of entitlement while playing in MLS he still does things that amaze me both on and off the field. He was probably the best dead ball specialist in MLS and a decent passer. Ives reported that he will not be receiving a salary at PSG but his pay will be donated to a French children's charity. I don't know of many athletes/entertainers that would do that, regardless of how much money they have made and still make. Ives also reported that it is for 5 months.
Will he also be donating the money that he will be making from endorsements and things of that sort to the same French children's charity? Nobody anywhere works for free.
That "salary" he is supposed getting is chump change in comparison to the potential Qatari sponsorship money flooding to his bank account. You are right, nobody works for free.
He would still get endorsement deals even if he wasn't playing for anyone this year and has specific obligations to those sponsors. According to what Ives reported PSG will not be giving him money so in a sense he is working for PSG for free (not sure how tax works in other countries so I don't know if this then becomes a write off for him). Between him and his wife they make/have enough money. Regardless it is still a nice gesture on their part.
Just consider me a cynic that's all. I read the blog article on the homepage of this website about Qatar and a thinly veiled jab at Beckham's PSG signing. Quite an interesting read however the conspiracy theory tone.
If anyone case, the NYRB-Crew game is being streamed live at http://www.newyorkredbulls.com/live. Josue Martinez is starting for NYRB.

Well, I guess the Hassli deal is dead!? Which in turn means so is the Adu to Toronto rumors. ....and while we are on the subject: SO DOES RBNY!!!
BOTH Hassli AND Cooper to FCD today: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/toronto-fc-sends-hassli-dallas-182827780--mls.html That opens up a lot of money for Toronto to spend on Adu.
