Where I am located there will be a discussion by the primary league in this area on increasing referee pay. This is the first adjustment in 10-years and I would like to gather data for comparative use during these discussions. This is competive select soccer and the age divisions are U8 up through and including U18. I am in the midwest and would appreciate data from anyone in the following staes; Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania West, Michigan, Kentucky, Illinois,. Input from others is welcome as well, just simply trying to compare apples-to-apples. Thanks in advance for any replies.
http://www.mvysa.com/cgi-bin/referee_fees.cgi http://buckeyepremierweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/BPYSL-REF-PAYMENT.pdf These are the fees for 90% of the games in Dayton and the games in the rest of OH-S are in the same rage. The interesting thing is that the higher level league pays less for centers at higher levels. These are both 'competative' leagues. I don't remember all of the state cup rates, but for U18/19 were 60/40/40.
Rather than looking for comparable rates in other states, I'd suggest looking at other leagues in the area. E.g. what does high school pay? what does college pay? what does adult amateur pay? Of course, you need to adjust for time commitment as well. (e.g. a men's adult game will require two hours of the referee's time, while a U-8 game won't.) Degree of difficulty should also be taken into consideration. The other argument that you should consider making is the difficulty of covering games with enough referees. Supply and demand.
This is exactly what I am attempting to do which is why I made a request of a specific geographic region. As to the components of comparing time frames for different age groups, those are well known on this end as well. Looking for some comparisons on fees as we are very well aware of components such as time committment, difficulty, availability, travel, competing fees, qualifications, and many more. As an economist I am aware of the many factors and components to take into consideration. What I need is the base component of
I think the pool is shrinking in some states (hearsay, only, around the tent). We instituted summer courses for the first time in memory in NJ. Can't come close to filling them. And leagues are starting to raise fees. The trainer/club fees have exploded and the officiating costs have stayed stagnant. The OP says fees haven't changed in 10 years. I bet the trainer/ coach/ club/ tourney fees have jumped significantly in those years.
Hey, if you've got instructors who are available to do grade 8 courses, we could use them. I have every entry level class full for the rest of the summer. Generally something about mom wanting the kids to do something this summer. We'd add more classes, but we don't have enough instructors available.
Not your area of concern - but typical competitive/club rates in Los Angeles and Orange County are $1.50/minute for what is called "Bronze" through "Gold" level and $1.65/minute for "Premier" level U17-U19. Normalizing by a $ per minute rate is typical around here with different rates depending on level of competition. For example, in the league I frequent, U12 Recreational is $1.20/minute while U12 Signature is $1.40/minute. In the Competitive/Club leagues, U12 is $1.50/minute.

Northern New Jersey, youth http://www.ncsanj.com/refereeFee.cfm Appears to have slightly higher referee fees than surrounding areas, but lower AR fees.
In Central Iowa, the largest conference pays $100 for a JV/Varsity double header for all three referees. The more remote schools pay mileage for one driver. The smaller schools may pay $5 or $10 less per set with mileage payments being inconsistent.
