Ugh. Majestic?! Are you kidding me? That would be lame for U-8 girls.
    Speed almost fits Racing, but...

I'm really excited to see pro soccer in Indy, props to everyone who made it happen. My one complaint would be that most of those team names are beyond cheesy, looks like they were dragged from a YMCA children's league. I'd rather have a unique/wierd name that is identifiable with the city than one of those cookie cutter ones.

Indianapolis United or IU, hmmm, that's not confusing at all.....

I kinda like AC Indy, but Majestics is so bad it makes Speed seem reasonable

    Congrats to Indy.

    all those names are cheesy.

Racing is probably the best option.

I have no connection to Indiana or Indianapolis, but I have respected the wishes of the Brickyard Battalion and wrote in Racing Indianapolis FC.

Those are the worst names I've ever heard.

Wow, can't believe I didn't catch that. Depending on the region of the country, there are certain initials that should not be tread on. In this state, I don't see how you could mess with IU. There would be a lot of people (i.e. Boilermakers) who'd find that hard to stomach. What were they thinking???

And yes, I'm all about getting some momentum behind this Racing Indianapolis write-in. The conspiracy theorist in me says these given names of Majestic and Speed are so bad, they're practically begging us to write in Racing a la Republic and Alliance with the Sounders.

They couldn't come up with at least one name that is something found in nature or literature that ends in an 'S'?

I wrote in Red Bulls, lol.

Seriously though, names like Speed and Majestic are kind of hollow and ridiculous sounding. Thank goodness MLS has moved away from those types of monikers (Burn, Wiz, Clash, Fusion, Mutiny). How about the Indianapolis Sizzle? There's a dignified name for ya.

With names like those they will fit right in. Shades of Atlantas naming contest.

I talked with a soccer "guru" tonight. Supposedly there's a reason why Racing Indy (or Indianapolis) wasn't a choice.

Apparently, there's some well-to-do lawyers that will have something to say if something else comes in and takes the name of "Racing" other than what the track is there for. Oh well. It was worth a shot. It's not a guarantee it couldn't happen, but I can see the issue.

Not the worst names I've seen for a minor league team. Lehigh Valley IronPigs still takes the cream of the crop for me. That is also the reason why I hate fans picking the team name. If I had to choose a name though I'd go with Cardinals. It may be generic and boring but it's the state bird and it sounds a lot more professional then the names given.

Athletic and Speed are the least bad of the options.

So lets say Racing Indinapolis can't be done; not saying you should give up just throwing out the possibility. Are there any other names you would prefer than the ones suggested? Any that still harken to the racing tradition and history? The Marmon Wasp was the first car to win the 500 mile race; Indinapolis Wasps? Are there other great names or nicknames for drivers, cars or engines that were prominent in the race that could be used?

I'm not against Circle City FC -- but it sounds more like an adult team than a pro team. I think Circle City could be used as a something else for the club.

From what I've gathered from Peter on twitter and at the fan forums AC is a popular option by the city as well as some fans as the goals would be to umbrella amateur sports like the local hurling clubs and potentially the new cricket and rugby pushes as Indy strives to be an international sport city

The AC wouldn't be pandering to Europe or SA but aiming to be a true athletic club. Again that's what I've gathered from some of the fan forums

That talk is hollow with no substance behind it. I'd like to see fans force this ownership's hand on the Racing name and hear an official statement if it is legally impossible. There are allusions to generic racing all over the city for all kinds of businesses. I won't believe the legal roadblock rumors until I hear something official.

Maybe ownership just thinks "Racing" is a silly idea and doesn't want to bother with it?

    I wouldn't have a problem with Indianapolis A.C.
