Good chance to watch some young Russian players on NBCSN tonight with Tampa Bay vs. St. Louis - Kucherov, Namestnikov, Tarasenko Also in Russian news - Bryzgalov traded to the Wild, Khudobin re-signs with Carolina, and Kuznetsov looks headed to Washington now that Traktor's KHL season is over.
Anisimov is on fire for Columbus. 2 goals tonight including a nice backhander. 6 points in 4 games since the Olympics and and least one goal in each game. Too bad he did nothing for Russia in Sochi.
Datsyuk, Popov, Malkin, Radulov were all good. Russia just couldn't finish, had bad luck, and took bad/controversial penalties, 5 on 5 we ran every team we played against.
KHL playoffs are set to begin on March 7. West 1. Dynamo Moscow vs. 8. Lokomotiv Yaroslavl 2. SKA St. Petersburg vs. 7. CSKA Moscow 3. Lev Prague vs. 6. Medvescak Zagreb 4. Donbas Donetsk vs. 5. Dinamo Riga East 1. Metallurg Magnitogorsk vs. 8. Admiral Vladivostok 2. Barys Astana vs. 7. Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg 3. Ak Bars Kazan vs. 6. Sibir Novosibirsk 4. Salavat Yulaev Ufa vs. 5. Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod
Ya I would say Radulov was better than Kovalchuk. If you are going to hold penalties against Radulov, Kovy took some dumb ones too. And Radulov really only got blamed for his in the US game when it shouldn't have mattered in the end if Tyutin's goal hadn't been taken away. Kovy had some good snipes, but Radulov competed in front of the net constantly and gave tons of energy all tournament while still backing it up with over a point per game.
Kuznetsov will make his NHL debut Monday against Pittsburgh. OV, Malkin, and Kuzya all in the same game...dis gon b gud
Yea can't wait to see what he can do in N. America. The more skilled Russians in the league the better.
Russia's about the appoint its first foreign coach for the Hockey NT, Oleg Znarok (Latvia). He's won the last two Gagarin Cups with Dinamo Moscow. I've always been completely opposed to the hockey team having a non-Russian at the helm but with Znarok it won't feelm like a mercenary is in charge.
And? When was Znarok a candidate for the Latvia job? Nolan's done very well with them I don't know how you gather that Latvia felt Znarok wasn't worthy.
