Has there ever been a project to collect USWNT match reports and/or box scores? If so, are these available anywhere online? Or, is there someone who I can contact (outside of US Soccer)? In any case, USSoccer.com's news database has, with some exceptions, complete USWNT match reports going back through 1999. A few of the articles about USWNT matches are just write-ups with no box scores, but I was able to find the box scores via other websites. I think that match reports are available for all public (non-closed-door) international matches, but I'm also looking for any closed-door international matches and non-International matches (e.g., against club or college teams). The Wayback Machine has older incarnations of USSF's website (US-Soccer.com) going back to 1998. Based on that, it appears that they have been putting match reports online since at least 1997. However, the Wayback Machine's archive of US-Soccer.com is very incomplete. I could only find a couple full match reports. Links to other match reports point to a newer USSoccer.com redirect page or a Wayback Machine not available page. Other online sources with incomplete match reports and box scores are SoccerTimes.com, SoccerAmerica.com, and WomenSoccer.com. Between those three sites, I have been able to find partial match reports going back through the 1995 WWC. SoccerTimes.com has fairly complete match reports for most of 1998, but their accompanying articles are re-writes. FIFA.com has reports for Women's World Cups and the Olympics, but these do not include any assist details or box scores (at least for the earlier tournaments). Also, CONCACAF.com has some technical reports for women's tournaments. Anyone know of other online sources that my Google-fu has failed to find? (For pre-1999 matches.) I suspect that US Soccer's Communications Department has been issuing (and emailing) match reports as press releases since at least 1995. So, hopefully, someone or some organization has these on some file server or email system. Or, if there's anyone who has archived pre-1999 US Soccer press releases from their website. US Soccer media guides are another source, but they seem to have only simple summaries: e.g., the line-ups, substitutions made (but no time detail), and the goals scored by a player in the match (with no times or assist information). And, hopefully once the 2012 USWNT media guide is ready, that will added to the website like the Men's. Older US Soccer Wire emails might be another option, though those would only have summaries of matches. *** What I'm looking for: Ideally, a complete box score plus a write-up that gives some detail about how the match went (specifics on the goals scored, key events, quotes from players and/or the coach). The next step down would be just a box score, like what is found at the end of US Soccer's match reports. Below that, a box score without detailed match statistics (shots, shots on goal, saves, fouls, etc.) Anything less would be considered "incomplete." E.g., just a FIFA-style match report (like this one from the 1996 Olympics) which lacks assist information for goals. I don't expect to find complete match reports going back to the first matches in Italy, but based on what's available online, getting a complete series of reports from 1996 onward seems to be a very strong possibility. If unofficial sources come up dry, then the next option would be to talk to US Soccer and see if they'll send me whatever old press releases are available. Or, to ask for those match reports to be added to their current website. If that fails, we could lobby Congress so that they can amend the Freedom of Information Act and make it applicable to the USOC and national governing bodies like the USSF. (only half-joking) ____ Other notes: I'm also searching online newspaper websites (e.g. national papers like the NY Times, and eventually local newspapers) for old articles about the USWNT, including matches. So, that's another source for reconstructing match details, if other options don't pan out. But, right now, my main objective is getting primary sources. And if you've got an archive of older US Soccer press releases where USWNT match reports are clumped together with other stuff, I'll take it all, no problem. Any official press items about the team would be useful. (And, collecting USMNT match reports is also on my projects list.)
