You know what would be even more funnier?....Mancini going out and buying a new keeper...All these 'pundits' will lose it....... PS: What the heck are you doing being still awake??...
One thing that really stands out about De Gea especially in that video is his ability to react and stay aware. He frequently makes one save then manages to get up and make another from close range. Makes the strikers have to do everything to beat him.
Agreed. Lotsa boys his age would be giving themselves a pat on the back for the first save, but he's up and ready for the next. Well done to him for getting through the media frenzy. Cracker of a signing.
He'd have to make far fewer follow up saves if he would hold the ball occasionally. He punches everything. Next thing he's got to work on for me after improving his kicking under duress.
The bolded part is my only gripe with him at the moment really. In general he's got good technique to strike to ball so, with that in mind, his kicking under pressure has been a bit of a letdown for me. I hope that, with experience, he'll learn how to prepare and position himself properly to be able to make good clearances. I'm sure it'll come, though. He's already a fantastic little keeper and I can't wait to see how good he'll be in a few years time.
You are suffering from purchase endowment. You would NEVER have put De Gea in the top 3 GKs before we bought him, but now he's there? You want to anoint him as one of the best and he cannot hold shots, get distance on his punches, command his area well, take crosses or kick under pressure. There are probably dozens of keepers who are just below his level in terms of shot stopping and have small to large leads in the areas he is weak in. In the premiership alone, Howard is a much more rounded keeper. The best thing about De Gea after his shot stopping is his age/potential.
Johno, he didnt ask who is the more rounded keeper. He asked, who are BETTER keepers. Tim Howard is NOT better than DDG. Especially going by this season. +------------------------------ Buffon is still the best keeper around. Unlike Casillas, Buffon has no weaknesses, other than the team in front of him. Speaking of well rounded keepers, Casillas is not one.
Not this year. I'm basing my decision over a period time. But he's still youngish by keeper standards. Don't write him off yet.
It isn't. It is why you rate him so highly. Howard is a better overall keeper and I think Cech has been more consistent this season too. My point is, from all accounts, DDG has had spotty form for a good portion of his time at United. He hasn't suddenly become much better than he was a couple years ago. At that point, you hadn't anointed him as a top 3 keeper. Now he is? Bullshit.
I would agree with this if you are ignoring flapping on crosses. Timmy used to be a wreck with crosses, but he's much better now.
