78% - David De Gea had the best saves to shots ratio of any 'keeper in the 2011-12 Prem Lge. Custodian.

He had a string of games where he was absolutely top notch. If he can keep that form for most of the season and eliminate gaffs that would make someone who has played at the highest level of the sport blush, then he'll be on course to be the best keeper signing we've had perhaps ever given his age and the potential for him to be with us for twice as long as Schmikes.

so we play Reading after the match with Madrid. natural that we would scout the opposition at their last game. here is how the media reports it though:

so frustrating. however, I can't see SAF losing faith in him. he's building our next great team and DDG is part of that future.

I have actually already read some people calling it a "lucky/fluky save" ...

******** off. I've always given him his due. I've been up and down the match thread calling him our best player, crediting him with double digit saves.

I think his save against Fulham(?) was on par with this one.

De Gea's positioning on the kick save is superb, too. Most keepers would just be sprinting across the goal, haphazardly, hoping to make the save at the near post, and with blatant disregard for a shot to the far post. De Gea's footwork is so fantastic, that he was able to get across and set himself, putting himself in good position to make a save if there was a shot back across the goal to the far post, is just absolutely outstanding. It's breathtaking to see coming from such a young keeper. It blows my mind that the guy is three most younger than me! His roof is so high. If he can clean up his crossing then he is one of the top five keepers in the world (IMO), easily.

His positioning on the kick save wasn't that great, but it was better than his footwork, which should have let him get his body behind the ball. I'm happy with the end result but to make it out to be some technical wonder save is to drown in the coolaid.

But this clip shows how chaotic the ball coming in was. It wasn't a controlled shot on goal. Coentrao just threw his body at the ball and there was no telling where it would go. DDG got over to the right area and then saved on instinct.
