Re: Immigration Thread (Hr 4437) VI Has anyone watched "Border Wars" on the National Geographic channel? Pretty interesting show the couple of times I've watched it. http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/series/explorer/3107/Overview
Re: Immigration Thread (Hr 4437) VI Should this thread get an update to its title to be current with the times? .... (SB 1070)? mad:)
Re: Immigration Thread (Hr 4437) VI Geez.....When I was growing up, this was how the racism was. Maybe we are regressing. Proposed Florida bill modeled after Arizona's SB-1070 gives Canadians and Europeans a free pass.......
Re: Immigration Thread (Hr 4437) VI yea the nads are regressing. someday their balls will drop again and get some immigration reform
Re: Immigration Thread (Hr 4437) VI Houston immigrations cases tossed by the hundreds In the month after Homeland Security officials started a review of Houston's immigration court docket, immigration judges dismissed more than 200 cases, an increase of more than 700 percent from the prior month, new data shows. Since this story broke, the opposition has gone nuts. Immigration dismissals draw Senate scrutiny The seven Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday called for an investigation into the dismissal of hundreds of immigration cases in Houston, accusing Homeland Security officials of selectively enforcing the law.
Re: Immigration Thread (Hr 4437) VI Yet they tell us that this is not a racial profiling law, LOL. They just don't want narcos to start decapitating people left and right, you know like they do in Arizona. It's starting to get uglier and uglier, they don't even try to hide the fact that they're discriminating anymore.
Re: Immigration Thread (Hr 4437) VI Interesting TallTowerMan, The countries under the Visa Waiver Program. Which says that 36 participating countries can travel for tourism or business purposes for stays of less than 90 days without obtaining a Visa.
Re: Immigration Thread (Hr 4437) VI Where is RDLMvCPQRS to defend this bill and say that it's misinterpreted and that the authors are not racists?
Re: Immigration Thread (Hr 4437) VI This is typical for how articles are written on immigration and other complex topics. In the first link, the key and most informative info as to why this is being done is towards the end of the piece. The hand-wringing complaints from anti immigration reform people are given top billing. Here is the information one would need to understand what is going on..... So they dismissed 217 out of the 7,444 backlog, which is 3%. So out of every 100 people from other countries that were caught, they let a whopping 3 folks go after determining them to be not dangerous and kept 97 of them in order to have more resources to actually deal with the criminal ones. A normal person might think this seems logical. But they would have to read the entire article to get there and then actually think about what it means. Notice that the article is bookended with another knotted-panty douchebag crying about it. Same shit, different day.
Re: Immigration Thread (Hr 4437) VI Right....and after those 90 days if they are still in the country, they have overstayed their waiver and are therefore illegally in the country....except in Florida where they are have the presumption of being in the country legally if this bill passes and is signed.
Racist bills like this are going to start popping up a lot in red states. Not sure what will happen if they get the senate and congress. I know people are going to bring out the long thoughtful essays on repurbs and cheap labor, but I just don't know anymore.
Re: Immigration Thread (Hr 4437) VI I defend certain aspects of the bill and I can certainly have a cool head about the immigration issue without throwing the racist card. Just like I am tired of people calling anyone antisemitic for opposing financial support to Israel, I am also tired of people calling anyone racist just because they support stringent immigration reform. At one point, you need to worry about the citizens of this country(regardless of ethnicity, race, gender, etc) that foot the bill of this country and start holding Mexico accountable (or any other country) for the lack of opportunities they create for their citizens. And for the record, I am against local police given those additional duties because serious crimes should be given priority, not if someone has a visa or not.
Ummmm.....if anyone is in doubt about SB1070 being racist. Just read the first version that was passed. Here, let me help you out. A law enforcement official or agency of this state or a county, city, town or other political subdivision of this state may not solely consider race, color or national origin in implementing the requirements of this subsection except to the extent permitted by the United States or Arizona constitution. If you are unclear what they meant by this, let me help some more. It means that they indeed can use race as a basis for stopping you. They just need to find some other reason also. Like a broken taillight....even it if it isn't broken. Wink wink nod nod. When they realized that they had left their chonies showing, they struck "solely" out of the language, but for all eyes to see, they have been unmasked for their true intentions. The Florida grand wizards aren't even trying to be sly.
Sharron Angle shows immigrants as ‘violent’ gangsters in new ad [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIkNAA2y4I4&feature=player_embedded"]YouTube - The Wave[/ame] Can't wait to see the repugs on this board defend this shit.
The ********ed up thing about this is that it works on a considerable portion of the population. I've been running into more and more of this crap in my everyday interactions. I'm like "What the ********?". I thought we did away with a lot of this shit way back when. Very disheartening.
