"kicker" is reporting here that Bayern is after Wolfsburg's Croatian international striker Mario Mandzukic.

The story says Mandzukic wants to join Bayern and the transfer fee being negotiated between the clubs is between 12 and 15M Euros.

I believe Bayern needs another star striker like it needs a hole in the head.

But hey, it could also work......

Does anyone here think Magath will do this deal and use that money to try to lure Edin Dzeko back to Wolfsburg???

God damnit, I screwed up my post two times due to missclicks and now I have to wrap it up :devilish:

    1. I think that Magath can neither afford (40m € price tag) Edin Dzeko nor convince him to join Wolfsburg considering that they don't play in the Champions League.
    2. Bayern's interest in Mandzukic isn't surprising since we were already interested in a striker with a similar portfolio (Giroud). The Croatian international would be certainly a huge asset in games where Bayern needs a striker upfront who can hold the ball on an offensive position. Pizarro is merely low-risk, short-term transfer who just happened to be on the market under very good conditions.

Sell Mandzukic? DON'T DO IT FELIX!!! Half of your offense from last year (the other coming from Patrick Helmes) came off his boot, patch up your differences, bury the hatchet with both him and with Diego and let's build a club that will contend for Europe and Champions League every year for years to come.

Selling Mario Mandzukic to Bayern would be a HUGE mistake, and one that only strengthens them to the point where nobody will ever be able to beat them and they can continue to be what I have dubbed "The New York Yankees of German Football" (21 Bundesliga titles since they won their first in 1971, an average of one championship every other year, compared to that, the Yankees have won 27 World Series since winning their first in 1923, once every 3.5 years)

And, as much as I'd like to see it happen, I don't think Edin Dzeko will ever come back to the VfL due to what happened between him and the Steve McClaren/Dieter Hoeness regime in my first season as a Wolfsburg supporter (2010-11) that I think left a very bad taste in his mouth and even though he never had any beefs with Felix Magath I just don't see it happening.

But then again, as a Los Angeles Kings NHL Hockey fan since I was 9 years old (in 1975), we never thought Wayne Gretzky would ever come to the Kings (in 1988) considering how mediocre our team was over the years, but, it happened, so we'll see how the next 2 months play out.

You're a bit late, he was sold last month.

Just because he once played for Wolfsburg, Mandzukic probably won't make Bayern unbeatable forerver.

    1969

Also probably because he has options Wolfsburg won't ever be able to compete with.

According to this kicker story, the following is some of what is going on at VfL Wolfsburg:

    • Felix Magath is apparently "holding the door open" for Diego and Simon Kjaer to depart. Diego is rehabbing a knee injury in Brazil and there are rumors Flamengo is interested in signing him. Kjaer simply does not want to play for Magath again at any cost. However, there do not seem to be any "hot" rumors about offers for him. Kjaer is known to want a return to AS Roma. Whether that will happen or not is anyone's guess.

    • Christian Träsch will not be Wolfsburg's team captain again for the coming season. Magath says he wants to give the captaincy to a player for whom it will not be a "burden." Magath believes the captaincy was a "burden" on Träsch last season.

    • VfL Wolfsburg is apparently in negotiations to play a "season opening" match with Manchester S#itty on August 4th in Wolfsburg. Of course, that match would mean a return to Wolfsburg for "still" Manchester S#itty striker Edin Dzeko. I have no doubt Magath would use this match as a chance to try to talk Dzeko into coming back on loan for a season..........

    LMAO!! :D

Doesn't scare us. How many times did Wolfsburg beat us with Mandzukic???

Yes. But this doesn't mean Magath won't try..........

While I sympathize with Kjaer in this situation, I feel Magath is right when he says, "Kjaer has a contract with Wolfsburg, not with me" in the article linked here.

BITE ME SIMON!!! IN FELIX WE TRUST!!!

I agree with most of the posts on that thread, if Simon Kjaer wants to play the role of crybaby then Felix, my friend, ship his ass outta Wolfsburg, or demote him to the second club (Wolfsburg II in Regionalliga, 4th division), but either way get rid of him. You can't have distractions like what he or that other clown Diego have caused the past two seasons, not when we are focused towards making a potential triumphant return to Europa or Champions League this coming season and maybe even contend for the title in the short future, that's why we brought Felix Magath back two seasons ago after sending Dieter Hoeness and Steve McClaren packing, and then gave him a lucrative 4-year extension of his already two-year deal he originally signed in 2011.

As for picking a new captain, Qualix has had success in the past with having and trusting Josue as our captain, when we won in 2009, he was our on-field boss under Felix's guidance, and I know it's one move that he can definitely take to the bank, and have the confidence that he made THE right decision.

As for the ongoing Edin Dzeko Sweepstakes, hey, VW knows how to flaunt the cash, they should just pull out their seemingly-endless checkbook and give the Bosnian Sensation (within reason) what he wants, maybe that exhibition match on August 4th vs. Man City at VW Arena could be a very good venue to perhaps making a deal happen. Dzeko had never had any beefs with Magath in their two years together (2007-09), only with Armin Veh and the Steve McClaren/Dieter Hoeness 3-Ring Circus the two seasons after Felix left for Schalke, I'm sure that contract talks will be the order of the day when City comes to town.

BTW, don't think that Grafite will be coming back too, as much as we want it, we do know that in reality, it ain't gonna happen.

Just keep in mind: 4 years is ancient history in football. If you live in the past already after following it for two seasons, you're in for dissapointment.

    ^^^^^^

    THIS!!!

And I really still don't get how dude can't see Grafite was a "one-season wonder?"

Maybe because if he recognizes that, he might have to also recognize VfL Wolfsburg as a championship club was one and the same?? :cautious:

Does anyone else want Wolfsburg to get rid of Magath? they have a lot of money, some real good players and i think with a coach who has some direction instead of selling and buying 15 players every transfer window. they COULD be a great team. i think kjaer and diego could both thrive in the buli but felix is being qualix as usual. so disappointing this team.

Transfer bomb in the Bundesliga! Werder Bremen has sold long-time starting central defender Naldo to VfL Wolfsburg!

Recently, I've been criticizing Werder Bremen boss Klaus Allofs for comments he made about "still being able to get the good players."

However, I don't think Allofs has "lost it" with this one. Even though the Bremen fans who have already contacted me about it think he has.

Sokratis has taken over the leadership on that defense. I thought playing with Naldo for Bremen was like playing with three strikers and one center back.

    Message to Felix Magath:
If you need a goal from a hard free kick or a header, Naldo is your guy. If you need an anchor for your central defense, you've f#cked up big time.........

I guess another question here is, "Does this mean Wolfsburg has reached a deal to send Simon Kjaer elsewhere or will Kjaer be spending the upcoming season with VfL's U-23 team???"

They (fellow Wolfsburg supporters like myself) don't forget very easily, do they? Edin Dzeko (along with Grafite and Manager Felix Magath) was the main reason we won the whole thing 4 seasons ago. Now I know that we will probably never see The Bosnian Sensation back in the Buli anytime soon, but he has unfinished business to conduct in the Premiership, like winning back-to-back league titles (like Dortmund) or even a double (FA/EPL/CL or EL, pick any two) or treble (FA, EPL, and CL or EL), and proving that last season was no fluke for City.

BTW Joe, welsome the the board, I hear you also are a Sounders supporter as am I, and have heard of my thing up here in Port Townsend I like to call VfL-USA Northwest, with a supporters population 1 (right now, myself) I am definitely tuned in to the match against the Galaxy right now, but I can't wait 'til the 20th to donn my 2011-12 Wolfsburg home (green/white) jersey/trikot I got from last season when VfL starts their quest for the DFB Cup.

You forgot to include another Bosnian star at Vfl , Zvjezdan Misimović - „Zwetschge“ :)

Sounders just demolished LA and I was at stadium. Very happy ;)
I like our new player Christian Tiffert who came from FC Kaiserslautern few days ago.

So please come on weekends and join us in Seattle!

I was only temporary Vfl Wolfsburg fan during their 3 best seasons when Dzeko and Misimovic played there because I am from Bosnia also. Maybe Felix Magath can bring back Misimovic but I doubt Dzeko will return soon. Tschüss!

I'm about to go into my third straight season as a VfL Wolfsburg supporter and I already own an arsenal of their shirts, including 4 from Puma (1997-98, 98-99, 1999-2000 and 2000-02) and the 2010-11 Blue 3rd shirt and also the 2010-12 Away and last season's green shirt, and will also be getting both the home green and away white shirts for this season (all from Adidas). I happen to stream the matches here in Port Townsend via one of those pirate sreaming sites every matchday early at 6:30 am PT our time, and I am also looking forward to our first match in the DFB-Pokal, and hopefully it won't be an early exit for Der Grun-Weisse VfL like it was last year.

GO WOLFSBURG!!! IN FELIX WE TRUST!!! IMMER NUR DU VfL!!!

I just wondered when exactly on that particular weekend that the match I will be watching (the one listed above) will kickoff, hopefully I'll be able to stream it LIVE online.
