I agree. I was surprised he was still given so many chances by all his coaches. It was touch watching him out there at times.

    Point gotten.

It sure is fun watching that epic goal over and over again, in any language, but I hope that there will be someone that can gracefully fit Grafite's shoes, and although Pele didn't retire until he was 38 back in 1977 (he was in his 3rd and final year with the New York Cosmos of the old NASL [that epic fail of a league]), I now agree with you guys, it was time for him to go. I used to think players actually get better wth age, but I didn't say how, but it most certainly doesn't mean physically, as you get older you have to use what you've got upstairs (brains!) to overcome the physical drawbacks you get as you age. But football is mostly a 90-minute-long physical beatdown, the mind can only do so much, the body less, even for a established veteran of the pitch like Graffa 23 was.

Now, can perhaps Mario Mandzukic or even Patrick Helmes step in and fill those boots? Felix Magath and all Wolfsburg supporters sure hope so, or else it may be another long season, as the first half of the 2010-11 season under the Steve McClaren/Dieter Hoeness runaway-freight-train-to-the-brink-of-disaster (relegation) proved for itself, I hope/know that Felix will never allow that to happen under his watch.

Mandzukic was playing very well at the end of last season. Wolfsburg also picked up Lakic. Hopefully Helmes will come around sooner than later. Not so worried about forwards, more concerned about figuring out the defense and midfield.

    Lakic. What a situation.

A Hoeness signing who came back to earth fairly quickly after he signed.

If Lakic doesn't start out like a house afire, he's going to find himself on the VfL II squad so quickly, it'll make his head spin.

I hope Helmes finally comes around for you guys.

He really hasn't been the same since that knee injury.

Yes, i think it had to do with the fact, that Magath let him play as central striker which fit much more to his skills than letting him play as a winger (McLaren).

Well Felix seems to be pushing all the right buttons when it comes to utilizing a player's strengths, putting him as a central striker position is indeed that for Mario Mandzukic, one of his strengths. Now if we can only get some problems ironed out on both defense and goalkeeping we'll be doing just fine this season under Felix Magath. I can definitely see that he is setting himself up for yet another title or at least a spot in either Champions League or at least Europa down the road, he just has to get the right pieces of the puzzle to make that run happen.

Does Diego Benaglio still have it left in the tank, or is it time we go shopping for a keeper, or do we perhaps give either Marvin Hitz or Andre Lenz a chance to unseed him as the #1 keeper?

I think Benaglio is still just fine.

I think his struggles were mostly due to his injuries and the overall gloomy atmosphere at the club the last season or two.

It's going to hard for Lakic to get minutes and i think he realizes this..He probably wishes he stayed at Kaiserslautern now..

Mandzukic is a good player..When he played with Mclaren he played mostly as a winger with alot more defensive responsibilities..Mandzukic reminds me of Olic as he always gives effort only Mandzukic is better technically then Olic..I think with Magath he will get the best out of Mandzukic..I expect him to score between 15-20 goals this season..

    He probably does.

But on the other hand, maybe the challenge of playing for Magath could be what he needs to play as he did at the start of last season more consistently.

Re: "Immer nur Du VfL" Wolfsburg 2011/12 Thread [R]

Well, I will be in just my second season as a full-on supporter of VfL Wolfsburg, and we open our 15th consecutive year at Top-Flight Bundesliga on the road on Saturday August 6th, as we play FC Köln in Cologne, and then next Saturday we have our home opener at Volkswagen Arena against Bayern Munich. Both matches kick off at 3:30 pm Wolfsburg time/9:30 am USA Eastern time/6:30 am USA Pacific time, so for those of us here in the States it will once again be yet another edition of what I like to call "Breakfast with Wolfsburg". I will be parked in front of my PC with my morning coffee in hand, watching the LIVE feed through the proverbial streaming site, in which all of us know the address of by now.

(Thanks to the good folks at vfl-wolfsburg.de for the following :) )

The first seven fixtures at a glance:

    Sat, 06.08.11, 3:30pm, Köln – Wolfsburg
    Sat, 13.08.11, 3:30pm , Wolfsburg – Bayern
    Fri, 19.08.11, 8:30pm, M’Gladbach – Wolfsburg
    Sat, 27.08.11, 3:30pm, Freiburg – Wolfsburg
    Sun, 11.09.11, 5:30pm, Wolfsburg – Schalke
    Sat, 17.09.11, 3:30pm, Hoffenheim – Wolfsburg
    Sat, 24.09.11, 3:30pm, Wolfsburg – Kaiserslautern

    THANKS/DANKE!!!

BTW, before this season starts, I will be getting a composite A/V output hooked up on my PC so I can run a lead from my office to the other corner of the main room where my home theatre is at to my Vizio 32" HDTV so I can watch the webcasts on a much larger screen rather than squint at my small PC monitor. Same web resolution, just bigger, and more enjoyable too.

Also, I have already ordered one of last season's Wolfsburg Third (Blue) jerseys/trikots on eBay (no it's not a knockoff, it's an official one, I paid 100 euros for it, so it'd better be!) and will hopefully get it in by our opening Matchday against FC Köln.

Dont forget Kevin Scheidhauer, it does look like that Magath sees him as the 4th striker

He is strong, big and fairly technical for a player of his size(6'3", 86kg). And was the 2nd topscorer of the A-Junior(U19) League last season.

Sebastian Polter, despite doing very well for Wolfsburg II last season, should be loaned out.

There is a possibility that they'll play a 4-2-3-1, u only need one starting striker in such lineup anyway. And i think Magath rates Scheidhauer higher, its pretty obvious in the recent freindly matches when he played Scheidhauer for a full 2nd half everytime

And 4 strikers(including one young talent from the youth team) should be enough

Re: "Immer nur Du VfL" Wolfsburg 2011/12 Thread [R]

It came in from Germany this morning, and it is an Adidas Formotion jersey/trikot, and it looks great, it came with the screened VW logo flock, along with stitched-on Adidas and Wolfsburg "W" on either peck, and official Bundesliga patch on the right sleeve, I got it with a blank back at the suggestion from a friend of mine in my bowling league, who owns a Premier League club jersey, since the player whose name you choose to donn on the back of it might wind up either being transferred/sold, or might somehow sign with another club, as Grafite (I was going to get his name/number on the back) signing with a club in Dubai proved. Besides most fans here in the States might not have heard of or watched Grafite let alone most other players in Europe.

I have informed the guy who sold it to me that I will soon be ordering the new Adidas 2011-12 season home (green) jersey/trikot (seen here)

for the new year, along with some other Wolfsburg merch. I will soon upload a pic of me in my new shirt, so stay tuned! :)

Not a fan of the blue kits lol, I guess you would really like to have to love the color to order one.

I do like these ones though,

I would totally buy one for around $55

Supporters Wolfsburg or Weekend Brothers - whom should I join???

I have heard of them both, I hear that Supporters Wolfsburg plays to a more-global fanbase, but the Weekend Brothers plays more to a hardcore Wolfsburg fanbase such as what I have become a part of, which should I try and join? Which would be more welcoming to American-based VfL Supporters like myself and the members of the North Jersey Brigade, America's biggest Wolfsburg supporters group?

Re: "Immer nur Du VfL" Wolfsburg 2011/12 Thread [R]

Hey guys, I picked up a 1997-98 VfL Wolfsburg jersey/trikot on eBay Germany from a seller in (of all places) the home of the newest club to enter Bundesliga, Augsburg, who earned their promotion by finishing second in 2. Bundesliga, along with veteran club and multi-time member of top-flight BL, Hertha BSC Berlin.

As soon as I get it in from Germany, I will post myself up in it, as well as myself in my newly-acquired 2010-11 blue (third) jersey/trikot that came in about 2 weeks ago, leaving me with just having to get the 1999-2000 white jersey/trikot to complete my "VfL-Stadion-Collection", a collection of Wolfsburg shirts celebrating their first 5 years in top flight while playing there before moving to the Volkswagen Arena for the 2002-03 season.

If anybody knows where I can get my grubby (well not really grubby :) ) American hands on a 1999-2000 VfL jersey in white in size XL, please post the site I can visit to snag it up on. If anybody has one they would like to sell me eere through the board, please PM me that info, I do have a confirmed/verified PayPal account as well as a 100% positive feedback rating on eBay with an almost-1000 score on it so far.

    Thanks/Danke,

It would probably be even more expensive, if anybody actually knew this player. ;)

I actually do :D. Most of the "matchworn" shirts on ebay are probably fake anyway. I never buy shirts anyway, but there is actually an entire thread on the Eintracht Braunschweig forums dedicated to fake shirts on e-bay, and I guess it's the same for other clubs.

As for this one -XXL? Jean-Kasongo Banza, and I looked it up, was, let's say, not exactly a giant. Maybe he liked to wear too large shirts, but still...

Oh, I almost forgot to mention, I am looking for one that is blank on the back (no name/number). Sorry I didn't let you guys know before hand.

BTW, that other 1999-2000 trikot/jersey you were referring to, I already saw it on eBay Germany when I found (and won) the 1997-98 shirt, but thanks for the thought.

Here is the link to the Puma 1997-98 VfL Wolfsburg jersey/trikot I won about a week ago on eBay Germany, and it is a good one indeed. :)

    http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemnext&item=300575229774.html

It will (hopefully) arrive soon, as I just can't wait to add it to my "VfL-Stadion Collection" from 1997-2002, with just the 1999-2000 season (home/heim) white jersey/trikot (in size XL, preferably blank on the back, no name/number), and I am constantly on eBay Germany on the lookout for one.

If any of you guys here (especially in Germany and Europe) see one elsewhere, please let me know, so I can set myself up to get it before someone else does.
