If the New England Revolution were to rename/change logo, what will it be? Couple of Options: Boston Revolution FC? Boston Muskets? Boston Revolutionaries? Boston FC? Boston Rebels? Maybe Poll of this afterwards?
Maybe not a lot, but I definitely don't want to talk about changing a name I've supported for 17 years. Especially if proposing changing it to something smallish and not well thought out.
Weird to see a cart sitting there right in front of the horse. Usually horses are pretty good at pulling things like that, but if you want to push it, you might be better off with an elephant or something larger... Nothing, a name change, kit change, color change, anything change, nothing at all will matter until the entire philosophy of the people running the team does an 180-degree turn.
No, actually, it isn't, I submit. I've said this over and over and lots of people seem to miss the intent of the branding a bit. I'm in marketing and I think they did a good job. The name Revolution, fits the region for obvious historical reasons and is a good counterpart to the Krafts other property, the Patriots. The logo, I'm fine with too, because it looks like graffiti. Something you would see painted on a wall in an ally during an insurrection. The wordmark is the same. And the team colors, well they are obviously appropriate. In addition, even though the casj fans don't know a lot about the Revolutuion... they all know the name. Not a good idea to abandon it, just to slavishly sound like another outfit. I would be open to a second logo as a compromise. I think the flag of N.E. already is becoming endearing, so I would not object to that. Lastly, I would not oppose being called Massachusetts Revolution, FC. Or, MRFC. Let's face it, all of New England aren't into the Rev's but enough outside Boston are. Plus the team will never play in Boston.
Well, I'm in marketing too, and I think it is one of the laziest and most piece of shit logos and brands around. Also, being in marketing you obviously know the importance of market perception that is attached to the brand. The Revs brand association is about as low as it possibly could be. That fact alone should be cause for a complete rebrand.
Not using Boston as the name is forever ruining the enormous potential in bringing in international players and to a smaller degree fans. Boston is the 4th most desirable MLS city to internationals after LA, NY, and maybe Montreal.
I like the name as well...maybe not too much the logo, but I was just wondering your random thoughts. haha
The New England Revolution name is solid. It pays homage to the important role the colonies of New England played in the American Revolutionary War and denotes that the franchise is meant to represent soccer supporters throughout the six states that currently comprise the New England region. Under the current investor/operators, it also ties in thematically with the identity of their other sports franchise. For all those reasons, particularly the first two, I'm in favor maintaining the name. FC or SC could be added to the name. That said, the logo strikes me as being hackneyed, dated crap and should be jettisoned in favor of a new mark, more reflective of traditional soccer badge design. As I've stated on several occasions, I've long found the logo proposal created by Twin Cities-based design firm Cemagraphics to be more attractive. Bottom line: Maintain the current team name and pair it with a new logo.
Keep the name, change the logo. I personally am not fan of the logo and would like to see something a bit more traditional. At the very least something with an actual border so it can actually be use on apparel!
I'm not a fan of any name/logo or color scheme that connects it in any way with the 1 Billion dollar, incredibly successful entity that is owned by Bob Kraft... because no matter what the Marketing Experts among us have to say..we all know how amazingly successful the name/logo/color scheme and connection to the Pats has been for the last 18 years! Yay..winning? /FAIL
Locomotiv New England wouldn't be a change. It's just be something else the team sorely needs but isn't going to get.
they're going to rebrand when they move into a SSS. that could be never, but both will happen at the same time. whether that just means new logo sets, changing to Boston Revolution or Boston FC is anyone's guess. They will have a new crest when and if they move into a new stadium.
