In my view, last season was one where virtually every key player had an off year. We could quibble about specifics, but in general terms, that's true, with exceptions to prove the rule. So...the idea that there are lots of glaring holes in the squad is unfounded. Improvements need to be made -- for the reason that every competitor is making "improvements" and LFC cannot afford to stand idle while that happens -- but if anyone thinks that means more than 3 - 4 tweaks, I don't know what you're thinking. Every manager in the league can look at every other squad and say, Fulham, for example, needs a consistent goal-scoring forward, or, Aston Villa needs a new midfield...whatever (!). Posturing for the press/market is puerile. You only look foolish when the rest of the iceberg sinks the Titanic.
3-4 players is the exact number this board has come to a consensus as to our need. 1. A creative fulcrum. 2. A third option up front. 3. A more natural winger with lots of pace. 4. A backup LB.
Yeah they took Cavani too, Uruguay and Brazil just have to be the favourites with all their attack power.
Not sure where it fits on the list of priorities, but we also need to find someone to start the season and/or cover for Lucas.
Ben Smith @BenSmithBBC Fabio Borini is likely (note likely) to become Rodgers' first signing as #LFC manager. Deal not done yet though -------------------------------------------- Looks like Fabio Borini of Roma is the player in the sights of Rodgers - not surprising as they were together at Swansea. This would be a quality signing - and not a bank breaker. If it happens.
You could be right. It could also be a case of seeing what we've got and only then make a decision on whether we keep or offload and the acquire. I'm rather thinking it's more case of not "giving the game away", though. Almost all those who used to be in the know are scrambling around just like us mere mortals. Even Dave Whelan has clammed up ...
I think Borini is value for money, if we get him at the price which is rumoured online. I just hope this is not the player was talking about in the press today.
Hmmm ... interesting that the same fee is the same as Sigurdsson's. I reckon that speaks volume. What betting Spurs will outflank Liverpool once again
He was complete and utter crap for Hoffenheim last season before they loaned him away. His performance at Swansea still should have made up for that though, I still wish we got him.
so the 2 + 2 = 5 rumours now are in overdrive that Carroll will be loaned somewhere to increase his value because he doesn't fit Rodgers system. What that system is with the new team that he must teach, I'm not sure.
I think Carroll would be a beast in Italy but that simply isn't happening. I mean, I can see why we'd do it - loaning Aquilani did wonders for his value. Still hopeful on Gaston Ramirez but I do like the Borini signing, if it happens. I also like the Mueller comparison!
What do you guys think of Ramirez, Borini and Granero as the main summer signings? Should be good to go, no?
I think the Carroll loan is absurd, why would we do that? Borini could be good business. We will see if he shows up at Anfield with a scarf
Dempsey rumors now... http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...133?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
if Brendan Rodgers wants Dempsey, that's his call, but that deal should have been done by Dalglish a year ago. probably could have had him for less than Downing cost.
