The article said that Ramirez would go for 15 mil. Swansea wants that much for Allen. I'd say forget about Allen. Price is too inflated.

The idea of 15M for Allen fills me with fear of more of the same. I mean really? 15 million?!

Something I find mildly amusing is the way you guys think that somehow the money is coming out of your pockets. I have about $20 in my pocket right now with the Washinton State Lottery as my pension plan but you guys are quibbling about a few million, here and there.

I say, If we want a player and he fits with the managers plans. "Then go out buy the bugger!" Not sit in seventh place at the end of next season saying "Weedda had more Championship money now if weedda gone out and bought the best then weedda ended in the top 2."

Why bitch and quibble, it really doesn't come out of your pockets. Is it saving money if we buy a 2 million pound player who can't give us what we want or need.

Why not we buy Messi and CR.

Apparently he's available for £10 million to clubs other than the top five which, for some odd reason, includes Liverpool  This transfer window is odd.

Oh, and Spurs are in for him. Given the angry tones from South Wales, that's likely to be his destination.

Fine with me if he goes to Spurs or stays in Wales. We already have Henderson.

Exactly. The best is when fans, who have zero at stake financially, say we should buy Player A for £13M but not £15M.

I realize that the club has a limited transfer budget and that we shouldn't be getting blatantly hosed, but if Rodgers wants a player - specifically one that he's very familiar with - who gives a shit if we drop a bit of money on him?

    Shock of the summer!

In other news, the sky is blue and it's hot down here in Texas.

    Maybe I wasn't clear? I dunno.
I'm totally with you on this one. I've been the one who from the start wanted us to spend big this summer.

My point is, if we can get Ramirez for 15 and Allen for the same, I'd rather we go for Ramirez. Do I think 15 is a bit much for Allen? Sure. If we can get both, should we? Why not? But if it's between 15 million for Ramirez and 15 (inflated) for Allen, I'd pick the former.

but the club has spent ridiculous money on players who did bupkes, so splashing 15M on Joe Allen isn't sound financial practice. and it has nothing to do with whose money is it? there's no way Joe Allen is going to make the kind of impact on the final league place that we would expect from a player who costs that kind of money.

I think many of the recent Carroll comments from high are the "we won't give him away so don't dick around" variety, more than we might want to keep him.

Probably. I still think Newcastle genuinely thinks its dealing with the same same mugs it did 18 months ago. Time will tell but I think we have real issues with transfers.

I think Newcastle know the player prefers to go there (no idea why since he got booed there) and that Rodgers has come out and said he would listen to moving him (and probably said more internally). They also don't need another striker.

As for transfers, there are two big problems. One, they have a ton of loans that have to get done because they won't find buyers for most of it. Cole won't see a buyer and a loan will be tough with the wages. Aquilani, Adam, Wilson and others have to be handled. They can't fire sale and they need something for some of it. Then the issue is a clear lack of funds. They need some parts and might not have the backing to do it

Anyone else see the stories claiming we sold Aquilani to FIorentina for 7 million pounds? I really hope it's true, that would be amazing.

Most of these issues stem from some incredibly poor decisions in the transfer market. It doesn't help that we've had three managers since Benitez only 2 seasons ago, does it? Still, the problems with poor transfers span at least two decades.

Yeah they've made some awful decisions, but the problem in modern football is that it seems to take more money, not less to fix the problems. You can't just say, well, now that someone else bungled it you're going to have to do more with less until you improve. You have to spend to improve and sometimes be willing to spend to eliminate some of the older issues with the squad (like finding a retirement home for Joe Cole by eating his contract)
