In tonights international friendly Iceland were thrashed 4-0 away to Hungary in Budapest. Its almost certain that Ólafur Johannesson will be replaced after the EURO 2012 qualifiers finsh in October. Maybe it would be best to get a new coach now and let him take charge for the remaining qualifiers. I am not sure if the KSÍ have anyone lined up for the job.
Olafur Karl Finsen has made just 1 appearance for Stjarnan this year, came on as a sub in the last game, a 5-1 win against Þor. Ingolfur Sigurdsson moved from KR to Valur as the season started. Has been substitute in most games. Has made 8 appearances for Valur so far.
According to reports Hungary weren´t as dominant as the result would suggest though. Sweden will meet Hungary next ahead in the qualifyers.
I have heard from Iceland that Guðjon Þorðarson could return as national coach when Olafur Johannesson time comes to an end.

It looks like either KR or IBV for the title and the meet in the Westmann Islands in round 20. At the bottom it looks like Vikingur and Fram will go down.

ROY KEANE COULD BECOME ICELAND COACH There has been talk over the last few days that ex Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane is the favourite to become the new coach of the Iceland national team. Reports said he was due in Iceland on Monday to watch Tuesdays U21 game against Norway and then the EURO 2012 qualifier against Cyprus. But when FA officals met the plane at the airport, Keane was not there !!!
PEPSI Deildin (Round 18) 11/09/11 IBV - Thor A. 3-1 11/09/11 Fylkir - Vikingur R. 2-1 11/09/11 FH - KR 2-1 11/09/11 Grindavik - Stjarnan 2-2 11/09/11 Valur - Keflavik 0-1 11/09/11 Fram - Breidablik 1-0 The big game of the weekend was played in Hafnarfjörður between FH and KR. Atli Gudnason and Atli Vidar Bjornsson gave FH a 2-0 lead at half time, KR pulled a goal back when Kjartan Henry Finnbogason scored on 73 minutes. The defeat means KR drop down to second place behind IBV. As for IBV they won 3-1 at home to Thor. The visitors took the lead through Johann Helgi Hannesson after 25 minutes. IBV were level 2 minutes later Aaron Spear with the goal. Spear made it 2-1 after 46 minutes and Andri Olafsson made it 3-1 on 68 minutes. IBV now lead KR by just one point, although KR have played a game less. At the bottom Fram won 1-0 at home to Breidablik, Arnar Gunnlaugsson was the scorer. Vikingur are still bottom with 9 points, 5 behind Fram As I have mentioned earlier, IA have been promoted from 1.deild, over the weekend Selfoss were also promoted.
The new Iceland national coach. There are loads of names in the Icelandic press being linked with the national team job when Olafur Johannesson leaves next month. It looks certain that the new man will not be an Icelander as the KSI are looking to bring in a foreign coach. I have heard Roy Keane, Steve Coppell, Bob Houghton, Lars Lagerback and Lars Olsen all mentioned over the last few weeks.
I have a preference for Lars Lagerback: no honours, but a great knowledge of managing a national team.

All the others had to be played on Monday. The big game between the top two teams IBV and KR ended 1-1. IBV got off to a bad start when defender Brynjar Gauti Gudjonsson was sent off on 17 minutes. Ten minutes later and Aaron Spear gave them the lead. KR equalized in the second half with a 68th minute Kjartan Henry Finnbogason goal. KR and IBV are still both on 40 points but KR have a better goal difference. They play their game in hand away to Keflavik on Thursday. At the bottom Vikingur had a surprise 6-2 win away to Breidablik but they still remain bottom with 12 points. Bjorgolfur Takefusa scored a hatrick but it looks too much for them to stay up. They are just 2 points behind Grindavik and they play each other at the weekend in Grindavik.
