The quarter finals of the Iceland Cup were played over the weekend. 02/07/11 Thor A. - Grindavik 2-1 aet 03/07/11 BI/Bolungarvik - Throttur R. 3-2 03/07/11 Fjolnir - IBV 1-2 03/07/11 KR - Keflavik 3-2 The biggest shock in the cup this year has been BI/Bolungarvik reaching the semi finals. It the furthest they have ever reached in the competition, also they are playing in the second tier of Icelandic football for the first ever time. Coach is Gujdon Thordarson.
Draw was made today for the Iceland Cup Semi - Finals BI/Bolungarvik will play KR, and Thor A. v IBV Both games to be played 28 July.
It certainly looks like KR will be too strong for everyone this year. It would be nice to see Gudjon Thordarson take little BI/Bolungarvik to the cup final though. Must also mention that they are doing okay in league too around mid-table in 1.deild
PEPSI Deildin (Round 9) 06/07/11 FH - Grindavik 7-2 06/07/11 Vikingur R. - Breidablik 2-2 06/07/11 Thor A. - Valur 0-3 06/07/11 Keflavik - Fram 1-0 06/07/11 Stjarnan - Fylkir 4-1 21/07/11 KR - IBV Valur went top of the league with a 3-0 win against Thor in Akureyri. Goals from Jon Vilhelm Akason, Haukur Pall Sigurdsson and Runar Mar Sigurjonsson moves Valur ahead of KR. FH were the big winners of the round with a 7-2 home win against Grindavik. Atli Vidar Bjornsson scored a hatrick, Olafur Pall Snorasson got two, Matthias Vilhjalmsson and Holmar Orn Runnarsson got the other goals for FH. Vikingur and Breidablik drew 2-2. Dylan McCallister gave Breidablik the lead but Vikingur fought back with goals from Baldur Adalsteinsson and Viktor Jonsson. Gudmundur Kristjansson levelled for Breidablik in the second half. Fram are still bottom with just 2 points and will surely be relegated come September unless they have a big improvemnet, they went down 1-0 away to Keflavik. Fylkir were leading 1-0 at Stjarnan at half time, but the home team had a great second half and won 4-1. KR - IBV will be played on 21 July as they are both playing in Europa League tonight.
Fram is a real disaster this year ... I'm happy for Keflavik is a team I like. But it will be strange not to see Fram in the rankings. To me, they are already in the second division.
Yes Fram have had a terrible season so far, they have missed one of their best players goalkeeper Hannes Þor Halldorsson who moved to KR during the winter. I would be surprised if coach Þorvaldur Orlygsson survives the season. Fram could have a good chance of picking up their first win on Monday, they have home game against Grindavik who are also struggling. In fact Grindavik lost the last game 7-2 away to FH.
If anyone is interested about the 1.deild (the second tier of Iceland football). ÍA lead the table after 10 games with 28 points, they have only dropped 2 points all year so far. They lead Selfoss by 6 points. ÍA have been the best team by far this year and it looks like promotion back to the top division after a 3 year absence. In the 10 games they have scored 29 goals and conceded just 4. http://www.freewebs.com/iauk for all the ÍA news on my website.

Valur had taken a first half lead with a goal from Jon Vilhelm Akason but Stjarnan levelled with a 63rd minute goal from Halldor Orri Bjornsson. Fram are still without a win. Tomas Leifsson gave them the lead after 24 minutes but Robbie Winters equalized for Grindavik.
KR were fantastic I am told last night. Coach was bit dissapointed they never scored a few more. Good result for FH too, 1-1 against Nacional of Portugal.
But for FH, the return match will be difficult to qualify. I wanted Rennes faces one of two clubs to go see them but this is not the case. Too bad!

Grindavik led 1-0 at home to Fylkir at half time, but 4 second half goals for the away team meant Fylkir won 4-1. Hilmar Geir Eidsson scored the winning goal for Keflavik in a 3-2 win away to Stjarnan.
