Has anyone else done the same. I will probably watch some action this year, but no way am I spending one cent on MLS in 2006.
Actually I'm looking forward to watching Direct Kick this year. I mean, it's not the same as having a local team to support, but it's better than nothing and I'm already pretty tired of watching the EPL. (Plus it means that I can have the option of the non-FSW broadcast and avoid having to listen to Bretos and Hopkins any more than is absolutely necessary. ) If you don't want Direct Kick I would recommend contacting your TV provider and letting them know, b/c I'm pretty sure that they just automatically subscribe you to the package every season until you let them know to cancel it. If you forget though, they will probably pro-rate the costs so that you could cancel after a couple of weekends and not have to pay more than a 5-10 bucks.
I tried watching games other than the Quakes and many were pretty boring. BTW, have you seen any of the UEFA Cup games? Amazing football!
I have as I just dropped the MLS package from Directv and added Setanta Sports (Channel 615). Best decision I've made in months!
Incorrect. As soon as the MLS season begins and 1 game is shown, you are on the hook for the entire season. This is the policy with Directv. I added the MLS package two years ago, something went wrong and it did not work until half way through the season so I decided to not renew. My package was the Direct Kick with the "do not renew option" so I thought it was done with it but they renewed it automatically. So last year I noticed the charge on my account after the first weekend of matches, called to cancel, and was told that since the season had begun I had to pay. It is in the small print on the bill. It almost happened again this year but I was waiting for the bastards.
I just checked with DishTV and the policy is somewhat the same as DirecTV. If the package is offered again this season on Dish, you will be automatically renewed. However, they don't know whether they are going to be carrying the Direct Kick package this year (it's always like that), so I have to call back when it's closer to the start of the season.
I'm not sure whether or not the MLS Direct Kick Package is already available on Comcast for the upcoming MLS season, but there's been no reason for me to inquire about the Package anyway. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
In the absence of a still demoralized Goodsie... edit: whoops, beat me to the thread Goodsport! But then you cultivate a few things: 1. you get to watch the game as a general fan of football. It's kinda cool. And you're supporting D1 pro soccer in the US, providing tangible #s that reflect a level of interest in the Bay Area... as in an investment in a return of the Quakes. 2. You get to keep track of USMNT players 3. You get to stay in the loop regarding future Quakes players. This way, you'll know who you're getting in the expansion draft. I was fortunate that I was a season ticket holder for a team that I despised but that played some friggin' quality soccer this past year. The previous years, if I ever went to a game it was for to accompany a group of friends or for a specific reason (LAG, Freddinho, etc.). There's something neat about being an objective observer: you see fouls better, you can appreciate individual performances w/o the guilt of "betraying your team", etc. My plan is that as long as I'm in the Bay Area, I will continue to spend as much money on MLS as I did previously. So the $$ I spent on my season ticket and a few extra tix for friends and family, will go directly into a brick or two or three w/ SSV and MLS Direct Kick. I want to leave as much solid, tangible proof as possible of the viability of this market. sincerely, carlos of the ucla kind
Thanks, Carlos! Your anticipated support of the brick campaign is especially appreciated considering your affinity for the rival Galaxy.
It becomes more fun if you just pick a random team to root for. I watched a couple, and I thought they were just horrid. They remind me of the A level teams in my rec league - the individual players have talent, but they spend all their time running into defenders instead of passing. I find MLS and MFL soccer to more flowing.
I'm actually quite happy that this will be my first season with Direct Kick, being that I never had the opportunity before. Sure, it would be even more awesome if the Quakes were still here but, hey I still love this league so whatcha gonna do.
What's the point of subscribing to Direct Kick, when you can watch the games for free on the Internet? I have never understood that. But, I think if you care about getting the team back here, it could help to have a DK subscriber base in the bay area, indicating that we still care about the sport and MLS, so there would be support for a new team. However I'm going to focus my MLS money on buying bricks, and maybe an occasional road trip to cheer for Dynamo.
Sure dealing drugs is easy money but it wont' bring the Quakes back any sooner. Seriously though, Bricks for what?
Are you sure about this??? I always had to ask these fools to set me back up for the Direct Kick, however this season will be different. I will not renew. The MLS can really kiss my ass . I am done w/ that chicken shit organization. I defended it for the longest time. Even w/ the stupid Shootout. The dumb playoff structure & how the league operates, but after what happened to the Quakes, that Mickey Mouse outfit just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Sorta like that Burgie Beer taste. You get that after burp, which leaves a taste of dead bile in your mouth. Nope, I don't want that stuff again. I will leave that for the fools that want to be abused by AEG, Garber, & their rest of their cronies.
personally, i'm still stuck on dial up, and my computer would probably implode if I tried to watch a game on here
go to ssv's website; they will be having a "buy a brick" program in which fans can help in getting a stadium built.
I have family in LA, the Central Valley and Oregon. My wife, two-year old daughter and I are taking two weeks vacation and driving from South Dakota to see everyone. We have had this planned since last year. We had planned to stop in SJ to catch a Quakes game. As the Quakes are now the Dynamo and Houston is not on the itinerary, my visit to San Jose will consist of driving through from the coast towards the Central Valley. My $69 for my Direct Kick package will go for gas, my tourist dollars will not be spent in SJ, and anyone who thinks that by continueing to pay $$ for MLS soccer as a Quakes fan will show MLS that SJ is a viable market had better get in touch with reality. MLS knows SJ is a viable market...it just doesn't have a viable owner. Period.
