I'm very happy for Huffie in particular - she's done extremely well this year coming off her ACL injury.

Yeah Huffman has been working her butt off this season.

I was expecting for Whitehill to get passed on.

Long surprises me, I am curious as to where they are going to put her. I'm not sure if she's strong enough to replace the midfielders we already have.

Love seeing Krieger get the call.

I doubt Whitehill will get passed over, I saw her having a rather long discussion with Pia after the game against Philly on saturday.

She's not on the roster for Sweden, and she was let go at camp for Germany.
She needs to start playing better to be considered for a spot. Its been a pretty weak season for her so far.

If you want to talk about non-Freedom players, please go to this thread, where the Lloyd issue has come up (as well as others).

I really wanted to see Huffman do well. That said, I doubt that Pia will call her back based on her performance last tuesday ... )unless a certain star forward seriously lobbies but icant see that happening either) I know she didn't have time to learn much about how the team plays together before she got her cap, but I have a gut feeling that Pia is looking for people who show up and gel immediately. I dont' think her performance was bad, i felt like it was merely treading water.

In addition Pia doesn't really seem to be looking for a holding midfielder. She wants everyone to get up in the attack. Huffman went forward only once to my recollection (i think she crossed to rapinoe who went over the crossbar). In all honesty, I think that once Lloyd and Heath are fit again the only "new" midfielder we will see will be Lindsey, unless someone randomly shows up and dominates when given the random chance by Pia. Such as in the sweden matches.

Perhaps i'm wrong though and the girl will end up making the WWC squad. (I'd like to see her get another chance, I'm just not going to hold my breath on it happening)

I don't see what the issue is - Cat was called up in December, March, and May, even if she didn't play in May. All I think it means is that Pia wanted to look at some different defenders. That's the flip side of the Allie and Huffie situation - for new players to get a closer look, old players have to stay home. If you want some of your favorite young players to get considered, then you have to live with some of your favorite old players being set aside to give them the opportunity.

I for one am glad that Pia is casting a wide net for 2011, rather than sticking with the same old players through hell or high water the way some previous WNT coaches did. And I wouldn't conclude that Cat is on the outs just because she's not called up or rostered a couple of times.

yeah i mean its good to look at a bunch of players because depth is very necessary, but soon enough its going to be cut down, and if you dont get a look in...
along the same lines, bummer allie didnt get to play because of her injury. hope she gets another chance!

Yes, that was definitely unfortunate for Allie, but I'd expect that if Pia thought she were worth looking at and didn't get a chance this time she'd try again later.
