It would be nice to see DCU and the Loudoun Co. NASL Franchise devolpment with the DCU development squad. Maybe some player exchange program with DCU's exceptional 18 + youth players would be nice. An easier travel to see than traveling to Richmond. Wasn't there some mention of MLS developmental teams playing in the NASL as their own entities though? Not just sending MLS development players to existing NASL clubs, but being teams in the league representing MLS franchises? If so, not sure how that would work with DCU's plans. Do you see any kind of local, annual Cup match? Once the DCU stadium is built, a DCU pre-season tourney where Loudoun Co is always invited, similiar to the one in N. Carolina? Any thoughts?
I'd like to see it develop into a really nasty rivalry. It would be great to have our arch-enemies only thirty miles Away
As a matter of fact at the press conference a representative of VIP management, team owners , said DCU was a "Mickey Mouse Franchise" whose trophy case was "dusty from having nothing new to put in it for ages" that Ben Olseson was a " poorly dressed half-wit" and that DCU supporters were "cretinesque feral idiots who spend 3/4 of a game huffing white-out in the bathrooms. He also put a $500 bounty on chrismpontious's head, whom he referred to as "DC United' s chief punk" payable to any of his players who "really knocks the crap out of him"
This would make a great offseason topic. Even better, it would make a great topic once the NVA franchise actually plays a game. Thx, Jay!
I can't wait to go see a game at the new stadium in Ashburn This news makes me want Charleston and Richmond to re-join the NASL - even though I still think the NASL is not to be trusted in general, it seems shady. But I'd like to see those teams play down the street from me, dammit.
I think we should take it slow. You know, like friends first. Maybe holding hands but only if they are nice.
So, there would be 2 USL Soccer PDL teams, 1 NASL, and 1 MLS team within the DC metro area. All that would be lacking would be a USL pro soccer team. Skill-wise, Terp soccer would find a niche toward the time. Someone needs to make a chart.
It's way too early. Naturally, I'd like to see some feeding of their best into our roster but we all know how wierd the US pyramid is so we will have to wait and see how the entire NASL develops in a few years.
gittnbizzee reports there is a big sign on Route 7 promoting a "Soccer Event: Name Unveiling" near the venue - but the sign says 3:00 - I thought it was at 3:30 ..... Oh well, I'll get there sometime in between the two. Looking forward to seeing Mark Simpson and Russ Thaler. I'll be disappointed in the name if they actually choose any of the 3 left to vote on, but maybe someone will over-rule those and come up with a better one It happened with United, so I have hope. But I do look forward to the team existing. It would be great to hold a USOC game in their stadium one day.
I remember that Dominion was the one that sucked the least, but I cannot remember the other 2 at all. At least it makes me think of the evil bastards in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Don't. You give marketing any ideas and the next thing you know you are standing in the field at halftime looking something like this.
