I was just thinking we here in the LA area can watch first divison soccer all year. That is of course if Los Xolos stay up. It's what 90 minutes to the border. Short walk across and a short bus or cab ride to Estadio Calente. We could go to two games in one weekend. And if Los Xolos do what they normally do and have their game at noon that would give you plenty of time to get back for a Galaxy 7:30 game. What even better the Xolos tickets are CHEEP. You can get the whole Clasura midfield for 275.60 a seat. Heck I can aford both season tickets.
Me too. And I am gringo. Also found out that the cheap seats for the Clausura were 159.73. Or 319.46 for both Clausura and Apetrura. BTW beer is $2.50. So if you bought the Cheap seats for both the Galaxy and Los Xolos it would set you back 719.46 I am going to write my congress people to try and persuade them to go back to the old way at the border. When all you needed was id and not a passport. Hell I go for some kind of Turista card with a magnetic strip. BTW did you read Nick Green's nice ariticle about his adventures to a Xolos game? It was this last Tuesday. You can get info at www.xolos.us.
You can still cross as a US Citizen with just an ID, but it takes a lot longer. If you get a new drivers license, you can use it in the "ready lane" which speeds stuff up. If you are going to make several trips a year, you should really be applying for the SENTRI card. Its about $140 for 5 years and typically will reduce your wait to about 10% of what it would be normally. Unfortunately, or not, depending on who you are, the Stadium has been essentially sold out for the whole season in Season tickets so getting your hands on tickets is really quite difficult. We are building 6,000 seats as fast as we can to accommodate the demand. We may have an interim measure to put more seats specifically for the US market in the short term. www.xolos.us will be the first place you will find out.
Why would I want to go down there where corruption is rampant, law is not observed, and life is cheap? I do feel that I'm very lucky to live in SoCal, the home of US Soccer and Galaxy.
So happy for Tijuana. I always said that if there'd been a Primera team in Tijuana while I was living in San Diego, I might never have become a Galaxy fan. (because, yes, for a New Jerseyan living as long as I did in San Diego, rooting for an LA team was difficult, at best.)
Because if you are smart about how you get there, and you are smart about how you behave once you are there, using organized transportation that drops off at the Stadium with bilingual assistance, the risks to the casual soccer fan going to the games, and not drifting into the wrong neighborhoods is minimal. I am not going to get into the argument about comparing the standard of soccer, but the timing of the two leagues means that someone living in southern orange county can have year round first division soccer travelling not much more than an hour in each direction. Going to TJ isn't for everyone, but as much as you might think you know what is going on in Tijuana, you aren't dodging bullets at half time at the game. Tijuana as a city isn't ever going to be completely safe, but then again, I am not sure I would want to take the wrong turn in many neighborhoods not that far away from Carson.
I've never really followed Mexican soccer so I don't have a team but I think I'll have to adopt Los Xolos seeing as how I just found out that my grandfather was born in Tijuana (he passed away when my father was a baby, so don't know much more about him). Of course the Galaxy, will always be #1 in my heart!
Thanks Xolos US. You have any idea how much the tickets cost? I've heard they a cheaper than Galaxy tickets. Plus could you let us know when the Apetura season tickets go on sale and where we can buy them. BTW the Aguilas are come on March 11 I would really love to boo those guys.
